Is there a simple Unix shell command to list dates backwards?

I'm looking for a standard Unix shell command that can list an arbitrary number of day dates backwards from today. For example, something like this: $ unixcommand -7 Tuesday July 5 2005 Monday July 4 2005 Sunday July 3 2005 Saturday July 2 2005 Friday July 1 2005 Thursday June 30 2005 Wednesday June 29 2005 Command must transit months, years, leap-years, etc. Does gcal, or any other Unix command, have this capability? Freshmeat just provides listing services (unless things have changed recently). Sourceforge provides hosting. A few years ago, I participated by writing a users' guide for a project called Gimp-Print (now being renamed to Gutenprint). I liked using the software but noted that it lacked documentation for the user. I also knew the project lead since we were employed by the same company. I wrote the users' guide and contributed it to the project using the GNU Free Documentation License. At that time, my proverbial itch was thus scratched. I still like and use the software frequently, but alas I have not had time to properly update the manual. In the Linux community, there are tons of way to help out. It all depends on your expertise and your interests. If you are interested in web based projects, you might want to check out any of the PHP projects. Although they are not usually directly related to *nix, they use the same licensing and run on the common LAMP setup. One way to improve the *nix community is to write documentation. Are any of us involved in a freshmeat project?

I am interested in contributing to the LINUX effort. When I go to <http://freshmeat.net/browse/18/> and am overwhelmed by the choices and by the lingo. Are any us WLUG folks involved in any of these? I know our tastes and skills may not match. I may not be able to directly contribute, but it would feel good to get an insight into the workings and the process. Ken Jones

Moving boot drive from hdb to hda

I am in the process of recovering my system from a bad drive and have almost succeeded. My system had 2 drives both were very similar in that they each had a version of linux installed with a swap partition and primary partition. The hda drive died in a way that made the mbr unavailable. I switch the drives making hdb hda. I then booted into a rescue mode (Suse) and modified the /boot/grub/menu.lst file and replaced the references for hdb with hda. It now reads kernel (hd0,1)/boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda2 vga=0x31a splash=silent desktop resume=/dev/hda1 showopts initrd (hd0,1)/boot/initrd I also modified the /boot/grub/device.map file. Upon rebooting the system it comes up allows me to choose at the grub menu and proceeds to boot. The boot messages are: Checking root file system... fsck 1.34 (25-Jul-2003) Failed to open the device '/dev/hdb2': No such device or address Warning... fsck.reiserfs for device /dev/hdb2 exited with signal 6. < more messages > file system is currently mounted read-only. This may be a little late but you can use perl to do this the Net::LDAPS module will make secure connections and just use the Net::LDAP::Entry object to insert you data from linux to windows.
