Meeting Reminder: Jan. 17th, 2017: "How to pick a single board computer"

Hey Gang, This is a reminder that there's a WLUG meeting January 17th, 2017! Here's all the vital details! Topic: How To Pick A Single Board Compuer Speaker: Jon "maddog" Hall Time: 7pm Location: Campus Center Room 331 "Mid Century Room" While in the near past there were few choices when it came to "SBC" single board computers, that's not the case anymore. Now there's a whole cornucopia of choices and architectures. Thankfully, Jon "Maddog" Hall is going to get help navigate the myriad of choices. Like always expect his talk to be educational and hilarious! Snacks and refreshments will be provided and as always they'll be pizza down at Tech to continue the conversation. Thanks, Tim. P.S. expanding Europe's Linux Presentation Day to the US

Hello, in May 2015 Berlin's Linux user group (BeLUG) has started a new type of event which has spread quickly all over Europe: the Linux Presentation Day (LPD) 2015.1: Berlin only 2016.1 & 2016.2: 120+ cities in 15 countries 2017.1: first locations outside Europe (Canada, New Zealand, probably more) I contact you because we intend to expand the LPD beyond Europe next year. The aim of the LPD towards the general public is to provide biannual and comprehensive information events about Linux for private users who would like to get a first impression of Linux. The aim towards the media is to make the event so big (both nationally and internationally) that the nationwide non-IT media cover it regularly. The aim towards the Linux community is that an LPD event can be so small and easy to organize (even without costs) that really everyone can try to organize an event with good chances of success. The local organizers decide on their own what their event shall be like; we just make suggestions and offer support. Meeting Dec 8th at 7pm: Topic: Personal RPZ

Hey Gang, Long time member Eric Martin has graciously stepped up to do another talk. This time it'll be about setting up a personal RPZ server. We all know we'll be setting lots of new devices up in the coming month... RPZ is basically a "spam" filter for your DNS. It works to keep your devices from gong to sites infected with malware and "jam the lock" of any existing mailware from getting back to it's command and control. Eric will give an overview and explain a quick and dirty on how to set one up. Time: 7pm Location: Campus Center Rm 301 (Haggland Rm. It's on the same floor as the Mid Century room we're normally in, only at the top of the stairs take a right instead of a left. We're still waiting for confirmation After that we'll head down to Tech Pizza. As usual snacks and refreshments will be provided. Topics for upcoming meetings!

Hey Gang, After last meeting, we were sitting around and started brainstorming some ideas for upcoming meetings. Here were some of the ideas that came up... - 2 factor authentication - Full disk encryption or partition encryption with luks + ubee token - Personal rpz - Home automation with Raspberry pi - Ansible and/or other automation / configuration tools - git methodologies, i.e. now that you've got git, how to use it effectively - Modern Linux kernel compiling for fun and performance! Linux Drivers contract opening in MA

We have a contract with an existing client in the Westford/Chelmsford area looking for a Sr Linux Drivers engineer for a contract opening. It is currently budgeted through the end of the year, but could be extended beyond that as they are working on 2017 budgets now. Our client needs someone with strong Linux drivers experience. Ideally someone with Yocto and the LXP processor from NXP, but those are not hard requirements. The key is strong Linux drivers skills.
