I had one a while while back and I kept an old Dell laptop (Windows USB1?) just for charging - sadly one of the kids thought it was waterproof so I no longer have it. Hope that helps. Circuit sounds very wonky. Hard power reset may get it back fully. They say 20 plus seconds of power button hold. Then release power button. Then hopefully power on normal. Eric I did not see this until now. Somehow it was in my spam folder. Right now it ONLY plays when charging. Since I want this to listen in my car I bet I have a cigarette to USB adapter somewhere. The following is based some very old memories of reading some articles about the charging profiles of lithium ion batteries. I expect that there are inaccuracies in my memory. Assuming that this has a lithium ion battery and this was the result of over discharging the battery, it is possible that the battery voltage is below the minimum voltage for the charging circuitry inside theSan Disk Clip. This behavior is an intentional behavior of chargers for safety reasons. If you insist on taking the risk of bypassing this safety feature, it is your risk. The unit has to be under charge for a l-o-n-g time, relying on internal leakage current to s-l-o-w-l-y charge the battery to above the minimum voltage to actually charge the battery. Several hours may not enough time to do this. I would consider "charging" this unit for several days to be sure that the unit will not take a charge. Joel/Robert/All: Thank you for the speedy replies. I am guessing that the unit is about 12 years old. I forget when I purchased it but only powered it up once or twice when I got it and it's been since sitting silently in a drawer. I am trying a different charger (just now) and will let that sit for a couple hours in case the charger was the issue. I looked on line regarding the battery replacement and it does not sound like it would be worth the effort and cost. Hopefully I the alternate charger fixes the issue. If it's the battery, I will likely move on. My intent is to use it to listen to podcasts in my car. I was previously using a 2nd generation ipod nano, but my one Windows PC that had itunes developed issues and I no longer have it. My son has used and abused one of those for around 10 years. Was a cheap way for 2rd grader to listen to music on school bus. His still works and charges every few years when he takes it out. Admittedly its use was daily until momentus day at 13 he became a teenage android cell user. Enough of my teary eyed reminicing... Back to your concern. The tiny battery on it and its battery charging circuit is internal. If it was mine I would try the following: 1) try the reset device, details belowm 2) try many USP outputs: wall charging blocks, laptop port, desktop port . 3) try many usb charging cords that fit its input port. 4) do you need this specific device (music on it, etc)? If yes consider troubleshooting internals to device. One ebay vendor sells internal batteries If no, consider another music solution The sanfisk forum page below explains how to reset device as well. Hold power button down for 15+ seconds resets. Release button. In addition to that I've been experimenting with restic. Restic is a backup system that can make use of S3/MinIO storage to create efficient backups. Those who have backups and those who *wish they had!* To dovetail with this is another topic that people might find interesting, that is TrueNAS Scale. I've been using it in production and for personal fun as well. Its App stack is pretty slick for people who want to start self hosting. Self hosted equivalent to wayback machine

So apparently, for some unknown and completely unforeseeable reason, a few notable websites have gone dark, like reproductiverights.org, lots of DEI related content, and <checks notes...> the official page on the US constitution. For now much of this content can still be found at the Wayback Machine, but it's not hard to foresee the same forces that took down the original content going after them as well. As an alternative, is anyone familiar with completely self-hosted systems with equivalent functionality to the Wayback Machine? -- - Frank

My only two problems (personally) with it are: 1) Storage is limited (I want at leat 16 TB for all of my media -- photos and videos). A pair of 8 TB M.2's would be great, but those aren't available in 2230 form factor. 2) I'd prefer a 4K screen, even at a lower refresh rate. I'm not into gaming. Otherwise, it looks like a fantastic machine. I'd prefer to trade off size and weight in favor of capability, but I'm probably an outlier.

My Framework 16 has been great. I have not upgraded anything. Games I couldn't run before can be run perfectly fine. I did recently try "Return to Moria" and it did not run well. It is PS5 game not available for the PS4 so I suspect it just requires more power than the Framework 16 graphics can give. I'm not running machine learning code so that hasn't been an issue for me. Keith, I have a Framework 16 and it does have good upgradability features. I have not upgraded anything with OEM parts yet, but I was able to re-use a mPCIe wireless adapter from an older laptop that is nicer with the kernel, as well as the storage from my old laptop. I saved money when buying the user-assembled Framework 16 kit as I didn't need to include storage or RAM. I used the NVMe storage from my older laptop and bought some aftermarket RAM that was cheaper than anything Framework was offering with the kit.
