Re: Reminder! Meeting this week on Sept 9th!

I should point out that going forward, all physical meetings are also going to connected to the Jitsi meeting as well. I don't want anybody to feel that they can't attend the meeting due to mobility issues or scheduling conflicts. Tim. WLUG Meeting tonight (Virtual) at 7PM, usual Jitsi location.

by Tim Keller

Hey Gang, Enough people have reached out to me privately that they want to attend remotely, that I think it makes sense to do the meeting virtually this month. The meeting will be at the usual virtual place: https://meet.jit.si/WlugMA <https://meet.jit.si/WlugMA>@7PM. Speaking with Frank WPI is off the table as a meeting location. Tonight I think it warrants a conversation about where we'd like to do physical meetings. They are going to happen, I'd like to pick a spot that works for everybody. I'm sure lots of other topics will come up as well. See ya there! Later, Tim. -- I am leery of the allegiances of any politician who refers to their constituents as "consumers".

Re: Inertia Blast

There is "-w" for windowed mode. It is really small on most displays as it is 320x200. It never really bothered me but I played it again focusing on the background drawing. I think it is caused from being stretched to a different aspect ratio. The old X11 implementation had a double screen size mode. I have that in Troll Bridge which is the code I based the Inertia Blast drawing code on. I'll try to add that in. Adding a full screen with black borders to keep the aspect ratio would be good too. I'll have to look into that. I don't want to be stuck at a meeting all night, but if it is done by video chat then I will check it out at 7pm (right?); hang out for an hour or two; then, with a point and a click, be teleported back to my living room in time for supper. -- Keith PS: I may try one more time to use the Linux laptop. Thrust is an old C64 game. I never played the original but enjoyed an svgalib version a long time ago. Svgalib was used for games when people didn't have machines that could reasonably run X. It requires root to run and can't run under X so it isn't something people do now for the most part. The version I played now has an X version but it requires pseudo color so it is not usable. Encore (Marlboro MA, pioneer of parallel cpus) was amazing (or amazingly foolish) because....roughly 100 employees cranked out this product/HW with not just ONE os: They had 3 flavors, all running on the same large (VAX-sized) Multimax hardware with heavy SCSI disks each a few hundred MB. OS #1: BSD OS #2: sysV OS #3: UMAX, a mach hybrid if that helps I got hired into a 3 person sysadmin team, 2 weeks later I learned my lead cohort was moving to FL leaving me as the new top puppy. But I was surrounded by UNIX literate developers, thrilled to learn from them! But mostly only colleges bought these systems, so the downsizing started soon after. -doug On Thu, Aug 26, 2021, 3:48 PM John Stoffel via WLUG <wlug(a)lists.wlug.org> wrote: > >>>>> "John" == John Stoffel via WLUG <wlug(a)lists.wlug.org> writes: > > Tim> It was 30 years ago today Linus sent out his fateful email about > Tim> his os he didn't think was going to turn into a "big thing." > > John> Amazing stuff. Re: Anagramarama

by Dennis Payne

It is on the website under "Additional Programmer". I suppose I could list the web site design as well. Although it occurs to me I didn't add me to the readme. I've already started working on getting another program up and running. It is a clone of Thrust an old C64 game. It supported svgalib and X11 is 256 psuedo color neither of which I can run. I've got it running in SDL but it has really complex autoconf/automake setup. I haven't been able to figure out how to get it to generate the right result. I did manually edit the Makefile and get it compiling but obviously that isn't a great solution. https://github.com/dulsi/thrust On Wed, 2021-08-11 at 09:57 -0400, Jon "maddog" Hall wrote: > Nice job, Dennis! > > You should add your name to the website, since you (re)created it. > > Credit where credit is due. > > md > > On Wed, Aug 11, 2021 at 8:10 AM Dennis Payne via WLUG > <wlug(a)lists.wlug.org> wrote: > > Anagramarama is a game I found on the libre game wiki.
