Inertia Blast

Thrust is an old C64 game. I never played the original but enjoyed an svgalib version a long time ago. Svgalib was used for games when people didn't have machines that could reasonably run X. It requires root to run and can't run under X so it isn't something people do now for the most part. The version I played now has an X version but it requires pseudo color so it is not usable. I updated the code to use SDL. I replaced some images that seemed to have been copied from the original. I renamed the game to Inertia Blast. We tried to keep sparc alive a little longer at least by releasing Oracle Linux on sparc as recently as 2017. Encore (Marlboro MA, pioneer of parallel cpus) was amazing (or amazingly foolish) because....roughly 100 employees cranked out this product/HW with not just ONE os: They had 3 flavors, all running on the same large (VAX-sized) Multimax hardware with heavy SCSI disks each a few hundred MB. OS #1: BSD OS #2: sysV OS #3: UMAX, a mach hybrid if that helps I got hired into a 3 person sysadmin team, 2 weeks later I learned my lead cohort was moving to FL leaving me as the new top puppy. But I was surrounded by UNIX literate developers, thrilled to learn from them! It is on the website under "Additional Programmer". I suppose I could list the web site design as well. Although it occurs to me I didn't add me to the readme. I've already started working on getting another program up and running. It is a clone of Thrust an old C64 game. It supported svgalib and X11 is 256 psuedo color neither of which I can run. I've got it running in SDL but it has really complex autoconf/automake setup. I haven't been able to figure out how to get it to generate the right result. I won't make July or August meetings due to being out of the Worcester area. I like the Hudson Library idea. Also like the idea of possibly it moving around to different locations idea. I can see WLUG meeting at different libraries, coffee houses or brew pubs around central MA. A bit like the 70's Kung Fu TV series. Roaming the area with only our highly tuned Linux skills and spiritual training as a Shaolin Monk...
