PocketPC and Linux

Hi all, I've got the 3800 iPAQ and installing linux on it is still pretty much "you will break your handheld". I've also got some windows software that keeps me locked in for now until companies release linux binaries or I can figure out how to run a palm emulator on my iPAQ when I get linux on it. Until that time, has ANYONE figured out how to hack activesync connectivity with Linux? It really ticks me off that M$ got rid of the ability to do a direct cable connection in PocketPC, while my hardware sweet and I love the responsiveness of my iPAQ, I almost wish I had gotten a palm or a clie. Any Ideas? Wes

The latest Jpilot and my IIIx are working pretty well, it actually hot syncs stuff nicely, and let's me edit my address book more easily as well... That's just my recent experience with RH 7.2 + updates system. John

PDA's and Linux

Hello all, I'm in the market for a decent PDA (Palm III died) and was wondering what everyone's experience has been with PDA's and synching with a Linux machine. I run Red Hat 7.1, not sure what kernel, but wanted to make sure the PDA and associated desktop software I bought would run under Linux. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

How about xscreensaver + all the plugins. cdparanoia + lame is a must (forget if that was metnioned or not). For coolnes i'm a big fan of Xplanet for my wallpaper. Maybe Blender for those 3d Artists, although i doubt many people woudl use it. I hear curl is pretty cool. A whole art section would actually be nice. The GIMP/Blender/xv. While these come with most distros, it's nice to just have a central place for them. A X11 true type fontserver + fonts would be nice. HOWTO's upto ying-yang too. Just a list off the top of my head. And the latest build of Open Office is actually further along in development than the 6.0 beta; I'd include that on any "killer apps" cd for sure. Greetings, I am a fellow Linux enthusiast new to this group. I have previously spent my time working in #linuxpeople on dalnet to help out newbies get they're systems installed and configured. Ive begun to compile a list of newbie oriented tutorials.. and other things of the sort. Id like to get more involved in the community in a more "hands on" sort of way. I know Mandrake includes Mozilla (probably out of date by now), XMMS, ogg-vorbis tools, VNC, Lame, Gaim, Jabber, Licq, and Alsa and OSS plugins, and I'm sure SuSE does with its monstrous CD collection or DVD. I think the latest kernel source, Mozilla milestone, and the free-to-download commercial programs mentioned are definitely a good idea for the CD. Brian J. You can add sound apps... ALSA O.S.S. The Alsa and OSS plugins for XMMS.. Also a collection of themes from classic.themes.org would be nice, window managers and such.. Ill help collect if you like. IMing is the Rage these days. Maybe GAIM/EveryBuddy/ICQ one. I think Mplayer is a must too, everybody loves media. You should put soem skisn on tehre too, Mplayer with -gui is not usable without skins.
