Thanks everyone for their input and offers for burning 7.3 to CD's. I actually found what I needed with the existing burn software I have. JavaScript Help

RedFlag Linux

HI gang, I downloaded a copy of RedFlag Linux last night (straight from China) for a friend. I tried to run it on VMware, but it immediately wants to enable the frame buffer device and VMware doesn't seem to support that. On another old machine, it can't handle my ancient PAS16 SCSI controller as part of the installation process. I ran it part way on my laptop to get to the installation screen, so I know the CD works. (I have a low quality screenshot if anybody is interested). I'd be interested to see it running, even though I can't read Chinese. If anybody wants a copy, let me know and I'll make you one. Javascript Help

Guys, My Javascript + dhtml has always been one great hack. And, unlike the other scripting languages I use (all open source) there just doesn't seem to be a great "javascript community" on the web. Just lots of free samples (yes, i've googled, maybe not enough). Here's my problem. I've got a table and I want one column to be used to display the different links in each area. If I mouse over "about us" I want the other table to display the links for that area. when I do this outside a table, I just create a bunch of <div>'s that are hidden, and just Javascript to make them visible and raise their z-index at the proper time (yes, terrible hack, my javascript sucks). In the table, I'm not sure how to "stack" the different <div>'s. I though relative positioning would do the trick, because the parent for all of the <div>'s should be the <td> tag, but instead the <div>'s relatively position to one another. So, I'm kinda stuck. Any help you can give would be great, web sites with tutorials are great too. Pre-made scripts are ok, but I'm actually trying to learn something here. Thanks, Wes

A null modem cable and a laplink cable have different connections, as I found out the hard way when I wanted to get PLIP working between two Linux boxes. I did find websites that sell cables and spec the pinout. Regardless of what they call it, if you know the pinout, you're in business. To answer question 2... A search for "null modem cable" on google will give you lots of good hits. For local kernel debug, you might just need to connect: Athlon Mac ground to ground txd to rxd rxd to txd If that is not enough, handshaking might require additional connections. There are variations, but I have had success, in other applications, with this handshaking setup: dtr to cd & dsr cd & dsr to dtr rts to cts cts to rts On a 9-pin connector: 1 = cd 2 = rxd 3 = txd 4 = dtr 5 = ground 6 = dsr 7 = rts 8 = cts 9 = ri You can probably buy a null modem cable at radio shack. Xmon / Serial cable

Folks, I'd like to try my hand at debugging the kernel boot process on a Macintosh PPC. I have a couple of silly questions, though. 1) Can I debug a Mac from an x86 box using Xmon? 2) I need a null modem cable to connect my Athlon and my Mac. You need to setup virtual hosting. I don't actually use the RH default sendmail (I roll my own), but I believe the default one already has virtual hosting enabled. What you'd need to do is: 1) Edit /etc/mail/local-host-names and add "host1.com" and "host2.com" (this should already be done actually.) 2) Edit /etc/mail/virtusertable and add: @host1.com error:nouser User unknown sales(a)host1.com user1 @host2.com error:nouser User unknown sales(a)host2.com user2 3) cd /etc/mail && make Theoretically, that should be all you need to do. aliases with sendmail.

I have a mail server setup with sendmail 8.11.6 (redhat 7.2) that recieves mail for multiple domains. What I am trying to setup is this: sales(a)host1.com forwards to user1's inbox sales(a)host2.com forwards to user2's inbox Is this possible with sendmail? I've trid doing it in the /etc/aliases file and had no luck. when I run the newaliases command it gives me a warning and it doesn't work corectly when I tested it. By default, the NFS server "squashes" root privileges for security. If it didn't, then the server would be completely open to attack by insecure NFS clients. Imagine copying a setuid shell to an NFS share from a client as root, and then logging into the server as a normal user and gaining root by running that shell you just copied there... You should use another user to access the files, or put them into a group and give group read/write access. If you REALLY want to run an insecure NFS setup, you can turn off root squashing by adding an option to /etc/exports on the server: /exported/directory 192.168.0.1(ro,no_root_squash) For read-only access, this isn't so bad. -- Charles R. Permission Problems Accessing Server-based NFS Share

Help! I want to set up my home network so that I can access my files stored on the server (Mandrake 8.0) from my client machine (RedHat 7.3) using NFS. I configured /etc/export on the server side and made certain that both nfs-utils and portmap were running on the server. I proceeded to mount the exported directory at a mount point I set up on the client machine without a problem. But, when I tried to access an exported NFS share on my server machine from my client machine, I got a "permission denied" error message. On accessing the client-side mount point, I see the subdirectories but they are noted to be locked. I was eventually able to get access to the directory but only by going into the server and enabling read, write and execute privileges for "others." Might someone out there have another solution? Is there something else I can do to solve this problem without having to leave read, write and execute privileges on the directory to such a broad class of users? Jim

I'm pretty sure the Prisim II chipset is supported by the Orinoco driver. (and there's also a Prisim driver aparently, which I haven't tried yet) Is this a PCMCIA card? You'll need to enable support for this card in the kernel (if it isn't already). It's under the Network Device Support->Wireless LAN (non-hamradio)->Hermes chip 802.11b support (...) Enable that option, and the appropriate support option below it (PCI, PCMCIA, etc, depending on what kind of card you have) Of course, this doesn't sound good: Support for these adaptors is so far still incomplete and buggy. I didn't think it was possible. But using source rpms is a greate idea, and may be a way around it. using rpm is a must (it's not my desision), so using .app packages would not work, at least for me.
