To answer question 2... A search for "null modem cable" on google will give you lots of good hits. For local kernel debug, you might just need to connect: Athlon Mac ground to ground txd to rxd rxd to txd If that is not enough, handshaking might require additional connections. There are variations, but I have had success, in other applications, with this handshaking setup: dtr to cd & dsr cd & dsr to dtr rts to cts cts to rts On a 9-pin connector: 1 = cd 2 = rxd 3 = txd 4 = dtr 5 = ground 6 = dsr 7 = rts 8 = cts 9 = ri You can probably buy a null modem cable at radio shack. I have a mail server setup with sendmail 8.11.6 (redhat 7.2) that recieves mail for multiple domains. What I am trying to setup is this: sales(a)host1.com forwards to user1's inbox sales(a)host2.com forwards to user2's inbox Is this possible with sendmail? I've trid doing it in the /etc/aliases file and had no luck. when I run the newaliases command it gives me a warning and it doesn't work corectly when I tested it. Permission Problems Accessing Server-based NFS Share

Help! I want to set up my home network so that I can access my files stored on the server (Mandrake 8.0) from my client machine (RedHat 7.3) using NFS. I configured /etc/export on the server side and made certain that both nfs-utils and portmap were running on the server. I proceeded to mount the exported directory at a mount point I set up on the client machine without a problem. But, when I tried to access an exported NFS share on my server machine from my client machine, I got a "permission denied" error message. On accessing the client-side mount point, I see the subdirectories but they are noted to be locked. I was eventually able to get access to the directory but only by going into the server and enabling read, write and execute privileges for "others." Might someone out there have another solution? Is there something else I can do to solve this problem without having to leave read, write and execute privileges on the directory to such a broad class of users? Jim

I'm pretty sure the Prisim II chipset is supported by the Orinoco driver. (and there's also a Prisim driver aparently, which I haven't tried yet) Is this a PCMCIA card? You'll need to enable support for this card in the kernel (if it isn't already). It's under the Network Device Support->Wireless LAN (non-hamradio)->Hermes chip 802.11b support (...) Enable that option, and the appropriate support option below it (PCI, PCMCIA, etc, depending on what kind of card you have) Of course, this doesn't sound good: Support for these adaptors is so far still incomplete and buggy. I didn't think it was possible. But using source rpms is a greate idea, and may be a way around it. using rpm is a must (it's not my desision), so using .app packages would not work, at least for me. The porting part is all taken care of, thankfully. Although one of the platforms i'm working with is cygwin. rpm already uses uname to determine the OS. But if you build a package on one system, say Linux and i try installing it on Cygwin, i get the error the the package was build for a different OS. I want to build a rpm package simaliar to how noarch rpms, but instead of arch independent i want it to be OS independent. There are tags for the spec file '%ifos ... %endif', but that's only for the build machine. I also noticed that in the system rpmrc file (/usr/lib/rpm/rpmrc), that all archs are compatable to 'noarch' like so arch_compat: alpha: axp noarch but i don't see a common name that all OSs are compatable with. i don't think this is possible but i thought i'd ask anyway. Wireless

I just bought a new Netgear Ma401 wireless card. I figured it was pretty cheap and it seemed like it was supported under linux. Well after doing some research I've found conflicting views. Some say its a PrismII based card, some say its a Orinco card. I have no idea and I'm new wireless with linux. My question is, does anyone have this card and wants to point me in the right direction. Or can someone point me in the right direction for wireless and linux in general. See this document: http://www.gtf.org/garzik/ecn/ In Linux 2.4, ECN is enabled and disabled with a sysctl called tcp_ecn which is documented in: /usr/src/linux/Documentation/filesystems/proc.txt You can find out if your system is using ECN: cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_ecn If a 1 shows up there, you are using ECN and may be unable to reach sites which incorrectly filter packets that use the ECN bits. You can try turning ECN support off: echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_ecn However, if the remote site is using ECN and there is a broken firewall between you and them, you may be out of luck. Are you behind a firewall? If so, you might want to check its configuration if possible. -- Charles R.
