You might be needed!

by Aramico

Well, about my problem in upgrading my remote server with the latest version of openssl, apache and other its need to avoid getting the error.... Just wanna tell u this, you might be need it, if not... just ignore it.... ;p Well, at the first time, before removing the available openssl, you might have to enable the TELNET CONNECTION first. It's better to completely remove the available openssl first, but remember to ENABLE THE TELNET CONNECTION first. After removing the old openssl, you can not make any other SSH connection to your remote machine. You have got to do this fast, do not let the TELNET CONNECTION enable for a long time period. Get the latest openssl in www.openssl.com, and follow the instruction. Dont be affraid of libcrypto.* proble. Just configured the openssl installation with shared (./configure --prefix=/YOUR_OPENSSL_DIR_TARGET --openssldir=/YOUR_OPENSSL_DIR_TARGET shared) That's the main idean that I would like to say, shared. It's automatically created the latest file of libcrypto.* and other its need. Simple, make the duplicate of the needed file and create a link from a defined .so as .so asked. Then, you can simply close the TELNET CONNECTION (using chkconfig --level 3 telnet off - Redhat) and re-enabling the ssh connection by typing /etc/rc.d/init.d/sshd restart) Good Luck...... ;p

Okay, flame war time, but this is really starting to bug me. What's everyone's freekin problem with MIME formatted messages? The poster's message is NOT in HTML format (referring to a previous post on the matter). It's in multipart/alternative. That means your mailer is free to choose what alternative encoding to display. I have mutt configured to show me text/html version (piped thru lynx, of course), but I could just as easily have it show me the text/plain one instead. The way I see it, giving the reader the option of what version to display is the best compromise, as compared to either A) not offering multimedia in email at all, or B) berating the sender of a message for not using a format you agree with. Using a retarded mailer that doesn't know to interpret multipart/alternative is no excuse. And jumping right to option B is just childish. -Chuck

I have not seen much true spam on the list, but a couple of people have been posting in HTML. If your spam filter is set up to trash that, you may be throwing away some non-spam (but so far nothing that you really need to know---just questions about how to get a Windows machine working on the net and such). Re: [Wlug] Completelly Uninstall for .tar version!

by Michael Patrick Frysinger

this depends on the distribution you're using ;) i'm assuming you're currently using RedHat which means you're gonna have to do some work to track down which files it installed. you *might* be lucky and the makefile that came with the .tar will have an 'uninstall' target ... run this cmd in the directory where you extracted the sources: `make uninstall` if it complains about no target (in other words nothing seems to happen), then look to see if the source has a configure script. if it does, run it with the preix option set to a directory that is currently empty ... `./configure --prefix=/tmp/my_stupid_install` and then run make like that ... hopefully make will respect the prefix completely and install under that directory, at which point you can analyze the resulting directory tree to see where the last install put files. -mike On Mon, 30 Sep 2002, Aramico wrote: > How can i make a completelly uninstall for an application that has been installed by using .tar sources ? >

it means that the libcrypto.so.2 was compiled against a different version of libraries ... to find out what is missing, try this: `ldd libcrypto.so.2` libcrypto.so.2 is part of openssl ... i'm assuming you d/l-ed the binaries of openssl, which means you'll have to d/l some more binary packages, or d/l the SRPM to openssl and compile it yourself -mike On Mon, 30 Sep 2002, Aramico wrote: > Hi, > I've removed my ssl rpm before, now I'm installing the latest version of ssl (openssl - openssl-0.9.6g.tar.gz ). > > Everythin' goes okay, no error found.... > THat something i confused just about getting this message when i'm trying to start up the sshd. > sshd: error while loading shared libraries: libcrypto.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory > > In fact, how can i get the source of libcrypto.so.2, how can i make a link to this ? the source ? > > THanks.

Aramico> How can i make a completelly uninstall for an application Aramico> that has been installed by using .tar sources ? Use the program 'checkinstall'. It will replace the final 'make install' step for you and build a package that can then be installed/removed with the normal package installation tools. This should be in all distributions from now on, what a great thing to have around! John

I was too lazy to make a .deb for my customized mutt install, and I've wanted to install it on 2 other systems since. And my dependencies are weird and I have to --force sometimes when I know I have something. And if someone knows the name of that program that makes separate trees for your tarballs and soft links 'em into your main tree, that could be the most useful thing for the original poster. Many (most?) make files provide for removing the installation. For some installations, it gets more complicated, because you may have other installations that depend on this one. If that is the case, then you will make those utilities useless. The right (and sometimes painful) answer is to use rpm's for your installs. I've recently been teaching myself to make my own rpm's. It's not real easy, because the documentation is lacking, but you should be able to do most basic things ok. And, the rpm's figure out your dependencies on the fly, and will make later installation of that utility in other places a real snap. Bill
