Its been years since I ran Gentoo (got tired of all the recompiles, but this was 10+ years ago for sure....) and I thought it was pretty damn bleeding edge in terms of kernels. I'm currently running kernel 6.0.8 on my main Debian Buster home NFS/KVM/etc server and it works great, but it is headless. John

According to the emails I received for moving through each step in the process, it took 42 days from me submitting my deposit and me receiving a physical laptop that I could start using. The other issue I ran into was that kernel 5.19.12 had a bad display driver that caused flickering (https://community.frame.work/t/psa-dont-upgrade-to-linux-kernel-5-19-12/231…) Hope this helps! Just to followup here, Linode is NOT blocking port 25 either inbound or outbound, nor 465 or 587. I've been running stoffel.org on there with mail and http for years now. It's only email TO @charter.net which is being blocked. And I've looked at all the UCE blacklists and my IP isn't listed. *shrug* Not much else I can do. Right now I'm playing with vultr VPS to see how that works and if I run into problems, but I honestly see me moving to panix down the line. I'm happy to pay more for a better service where I can run my own VPS and mail setup. More as I get this moving better over the Xmas downtime.

Re: [EXT] Looking for a good VPS provider

by Chris (wolcen) Thompson

I realize this is resolved, but I'll (semi-selfishly) send out two more quick things: For one, if any of y'all wanted to try any others - or maybe you have some jobs you'd like to offload to the cloud temporarily, here's some more free credits: https://www.linode.com/lan (from "Linux Action News" - $100 on Linode) As a side-note (if you care) Linode is an Akamai company now (has been for several months IIRC). And this is where I get selfish - this here is a personal one - I haven't heard any ads for DigitalOcean. for a while: https://m.do.co/c/305f9963f488 - $200 (I think you have to use within 60 days) If you do use D.O., opt for the Premium AMD systems - they are much faster. Secondly: in re: Linode being blocked for email, I'm finding it hard to verify this (and in fact, I see evidence to the contrary). Are you certain that your mail server is not listed on any blacklists? If you are getting an "AUP#In-1000" this would indicate a UCE listing. You can try the community forums to get more information about the issue. Otherwise, you can also use e.g. MailGun (not so cheap) or SendGrid (has free tiers) as your outbound SMTP server. I've had to do this on a number of occasions, and they also have API for hooking up e.g. Drupal mail, etc. Regards, Chris On 12/8/22 12:11, Chris (wolcen) Thompson via WLUG wrote: > Here's $150 for Vultr :-) > > https://www.vultr.com/promo/try150?promo=150OFFER30&utm_source=TechLinked&u… > > > _______________________________________________ > WLUG mailing list -- wlug(a)lists.wlug.org > To unsubscribe send an email to wlug-leave(a)lists.wlug.org > Create Account: https://wlug.mailman3.com/accounts/signup/ > Change Settings: > https://wlug.mailman3.com/postorius/lists/wlug.lists.wlug.org/ > Web Forum/Archive: > https://wlug.mailman3.com/hyperkitty/list/wlug@lists.wlug.org/message/ORTSH…

Good catch, John - I should have mentioned that! (I do keep my monitors off as well). Yes - given I'm on i3, I do a `DISPLAY=:0 i3lock &` and a simple Ctrl+C is good for killing the x0vncserver started in the SSH shell. Thanks for pointing out those very important caveats. Hey Everybody, I'm moving the meeting to the 15th! We brought up a whole bunch of interesting meeting ideas last meeting. QUIK was talked about. We also talked about redoing the KiCAD talk so we could see the full talk (and actually record it!) We also talked about deep diving into the new wifi standards. PiKVM as well as FOSS music players and piCroft. Let me know what you might be interested in talking about. Thanks, Tim. -- I am leery of the allegiances of any politician who refers to their constituents as "consumers".
