The possible values are true and false. Toggle it and see if that fixes your problem. If the webserver in question is running on the machine that is making the VPN connection, then it will not be visible on the Internet while the VPN is active. That's a feature. When you activate the VPN on your machine, you become part of your company's network, and when you deactivate the VPN, you go "back to normal". You could add another NIC to handle the web traffic, but you then create a path from one NIC to your machine and out the other NIC to your company's network. Do you really want to create a back door into your company's network that way? This is a security issue to be considered. Hi Wes, There is alot of information at this website: http://www.linux-laptop.net/ For me, my Sony VAIO PCG-FXA36 works fine with SuSE Linux 8.1 except for the built in modem. However, I *think* there's a driver available for the modem, but I have not tried it. As Doug mentioned, the battery life stinks (a little over an hour), and at $250 for a 2nd battery, they can keep it. I've also found some information in "Grokking the GIMP" with regard to how to use some features of the GIMP to enhance scanned images. This was most helpful when I discovered that scanning images from a magazine or calendar (printed material) caused a speckling effect to appear in the resulting image. The GIMP has a despeckling filter that removes this rather well in many cases. This entire topic has me wondering if a detailed examination of the features of the GIMP might be a good discussion for a future meeting. I am writing this on a Toshiba Tecra 8000. I have used it since Suse 7.2 but it is now 8.1. APM worked correctly with 8.0 but not with 8.1 so I will be reinstalling it with 8.0. looking forward to the 15th!

Hi gang, I'm looking forward to the 15th of January so I can finally say good-bye to Brother Bill on my iPAQ. I got a couple of questions..... Has anyone used the perl-script that syncs the ipaq and evolution? Other then the notorious, "Don't run this while Evolution is open" are there any other problems? Which CF wireless nics work with linux on the iPAQ. I'm seriously thinking that I'm going to get the cf-plus expansion pack and a wireless nic for my iPAQ (linux's true strength is networking, right?). So which one's work? And, sadly, how easy is it to reverse the process? On the off-chance that I can't stand OPIE as a working environment. I've read the howto, how hard is it in "real life." It might be fun to invite some of the people from the compaq lab to the meeting if anyone who worked on ipaq linux is based in the Worcester area.... Have you considered a Apple iBook or Powerbook? An iBook runs for about $1000 and PB's $2000. Compared to my Dell Laptop for work.. Apple has some nice hardware. I have an iBook 500mhz.. I was shocked how well Yellow Dog Linux ran on it. The speed difference over Mac OS X was very noticable. I also tried Mandrake PPC linux on it, not very impressed with it. Unfortunetly, the 20 gig drive I placed in the iBook fried, so all I have now is Mac OS X. The 10 gigs is too tight for a dual system. I'm having a hard time converting the wife to linux.<G> A buddy down in CT has a Powerbook running Yellow Dog also, only issue is the ATI video is not fully supported yet. just throwing my 2 cents in.. Suse Linux: Internet access

I recently installed Suse Linux on my Pentium III, 600 mHz computer that had Windows XP installed previously. Linux seems to work OK, except that I can't access my cable modem or dial-up modem from it. If I want to go to the internet, I have to go via windows. I got this machine from my son-in-law, and it has never printed in either windows or Linux. I have "properly" installed my deskjet 932 printer, it looks to be installed ok, but when I try to print, the printer never gets the data that the computer supposedly sends to it. Any help I can get from you folks would be greatly appreciated. I have a Dell Inspiron 8000 that works perfectly under Linux. I can suspend and resume it just fine, which impresses a lot of folks since they can't even do that under Windows. The 8200 is the current model; you can find 8000's and 8100's for reasonable money on eBay. It's a big, clunky-looking machine, but the internals are well done, it's very fast, and it has a very nice screen (1400x1050 or 1600x1200; none of this silly 1024x768 on a 15" screen). It can also take two batteries. I'd actually go for an 8000 rather than an 8200 if you want long battery life; the slower processors (mine is 700 MHz) make for much longer battery life. I get 5 hours from a 2700 and 3800 mAH battery; you can buy 4400 mAH batteries now, which should give about 7 hours of battery life. There are lots of other configuration options; you can get a combo DVD/CDRW drive, or two optical drives, if you like. I'm a big fan of Dells and have run Linux on a few Inspiron and Latitude models (my current laptop is an Inspiron 8000). Every piece of hardware in it was supported out of the box by Mandrake: ATi video card, Maestro3 sound, EEPro100 onboard ethernet, DVD drive, and winmodem, which is of the Lucent variety, though I never bothered to set it up as I don't have any dial-up accounts. They're a bit more pricey than what you can find in a clearance at a store, but they're very customizable for a laptop (on Dell's web site), and that made it worth it to me. My $0.02. Brian J. Thanks for all the help...It seems I may be locked out of my local lan while connected :( I now have a semi-minor issue to solve. When connected to the vpn I can use realplayer to listen to internet radio after configuring the necessary proxy server. I have not been able to configure xmms play the same links. Hi Andy, I have just discovered that the GIMP can work with color profiles. See http://www.coloraid.de/, which was referenced at http://www.normankoren.com/color_management_3.html Norman Koren has a web site that discusses a lot of aspects of digital darkroom. To calibrate things, you need a printed color chart, an example of which is the IT8 target. I have seen them sold by Praxisoft for $70.00, but you can get the same chart from Germany for $10.00 US + $5.00 S&H. Check out SCARSE which is a Linux program for scanner profiles. zaurus

Hi gang, Well, I'm thinking about just going out and getting a zaurus for myself, I've seem them for around $330 as some places. Should I do this, or just convert my iPAQ as I planned? There are some features of the iPAQ that I like (like inviting attendees to meetings), but getting some sync-ability with Linux is just over the top for me.... Anyone get zaurus to sync with Evolution? Wes
