by Aramico

Hi all, I have several user in my linux machine. And now, I've just finished configure my qmail server. qmail only works for the user who has the home directory. by this, I've got to create several users with their directory if I want to create an email address for them. It's not secure! How can I make disable ssh and telnet to my user ? By this my user still can access the email and ftp, but can not login via telnet and ssh service. what configuration that I need to do ? Thanks Man.

Anyone have any experience with http://www.webmasters.com? I am considering transferring from logicinternet.com, the services promised by the former are seemingly much better, so I am looking for some local testimonials. thanks! Brett

Virtual Hosting

by jose sanchez

Hello All: I am experiencing a weird problem with Name based virtual hosting with apache. I don't know if I am doing this correctly. The webserver is behind a firewall that is NATing traffic to it. I have three domain names, example: domain1.com, domain2.com, and domain3.com. I have the registrar of the domains forwarded to my external ip (24.31.xx.xx). The webserver's ip is 192.168.2.50. This is what the http.conf file looks like: NameVirtualHost 192.168.2.50 <VirtualHost 192.168.2.50> ServerName www.domain1.com ServerAdmin wilsan816(a)yahoo.com DocumentRoot /home/domain1/www </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost 192.168.2.50> ServerName www.domain2.com ServerAdmin wilsan816(a)yahoo.com DocumentRoot /home/domain2/www </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost 192.168.2.50> ServerName www.domain3.com ServerAdmin wilsan816(a)yahoo.com DocumentRoot /home/domain3/www </VirtualHost> Somehow the virtual hosting is not working. When I type www.domain2.com or www.domain3.com on the browser I get the content or pages of domain1.com. I don't know why is doing that. When I type www.domain1.com, obviously works. Now, the address bar changes from www.domainx.com to 24.31.xx.xx/index.php. The registrar where the domains are registered doesn't offer free "Domain Masking" (when the domain name stays on the browser' address bar). I don't know if this is why I am having this problem. If anyone have experienced this before please let me know. Thanks in advance. ===== "An ounce of gold cannot buy an ounce of time." - Anonymous www.whmicro.com __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. I'll try 'em all and report which one actually worked for me. ;) But I've exhausted (I think) setterm and xset. What else is there? -Chuck

If you installed your distribution's packages of Apache and Postgres, or other well-packaged software, it is as simple as: chkconfig httpd on chkconfig postgresql on And you can use the service command to start/stop them at any time too: service httpd start (or stop, status, restart, reload, etc.) This is all done through the magic of SysV-style initscripts: /etc/init.d /etc/rc*.d and on Red Hat systems, this is documented in: /usr/share/doc/initscripts-*/sysvinitfiles On Mon, Feb 03, 2003 at 03:27:47AM +0700, Aramico wrote: aramico> How can i make these things run automatically at first time of My linux boot aramico> up. -- Charles R. Blanking screen blanking @#$!

by chuck＠vvisions.com

Howdy, y'all. I'm just inches away from using my wikkid new Fujitsu notebook as a DVD player. After solving the seemingly difficult problems of playing a movie in the first place (xine), playing an encrypted DVD (libdvdcss), getting hardware scaling to work on my ATI (gatos), and enabling the S-video output (atitvout), I'm left with the final daunting challenge: Turning off the #!$@ screen saver! I've tried the following (in this order): setterm -blank 0 setterm -powersave off setterm -powerdown 0 xset s off xset s noblank xset -dpms apm -i (a long shot, which is not compiled in my version) Still my video goes out every 5 minutes. WTF? I don't who or what is turning off my screen, and for what motive. But their treachery must be stopped! Surely someone on this list has the knowledge I need to restore justice. TIA, -Chuck -- Chuck Homic homic(a)ml1.net

Feeel free > to I have never used Gentoo, and I do not know of any config tools they include that my help you; so my comments are distro independent (they are really all the same in the end - maybe the start of a good flame war!). First thing is to run 'XFree86 -configure' assuming you are running version 4.x.x If this does not work, you will have to manually configure. Start by running 'lspci -vvv' to scan the PCI bus and see what type of card you have etc. Then see if there any good docs (ther are) at http://www.xfree86.org/ You should also go to the following site where there will be links to what others did to get Linux on a particular laptop http://www.linux-in-laptops.net/ibm.html You can also try IBM http://www-1.ibm.com/linux/ or http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/linux/ This should get you started where you can likely get X up and running. Any specific questions, just post to the list. I use a T23 and X runs fine 1024x768 on the LCD panel or 1600x1200 on my Viewsonic flat panel both at 24 bit. So you should have no problem getting the A30 to work. Good Luck! TG

Using c = 3e10 cm/s, and G = 6.67e-8 cm^3/g s^2, we get the conversion factor 1 second = 1.5e34 kg, so an hour of gold would be 5.4e37 kg. An hour of gold would be quite valuable as a gold certificate. Taking actual delivery would be dangerous--- unless you keep it well spread out in a vault with a radius much more that 1 light-hour = 1 trillion kilometers, your fortune will collapse into a black hole. Note: This system of units comes from Sachs and Wu, "General Relativity for Mathematicians". Other authors prefer to set G = 1 and leave a factor of 8 pi in the Einstein field equations. I refuse to argue about it. -- Keith

If you can provide some more info, I can let you know if these would help you. What kernel rev do you use? What File System, and how big are the block sizes? How much ram is in your machine? What version of apache are you using? Do you have mod_perl installed, if so, what version of PERL are you using? Do you have a TCP stack with the syn/ack flag support? Are you using IPv4 or IPv6? oracle ad :-)

by doug waud

Hi all This morning's T&G had an amusing ad from Oracle. It consisted of a large heading "Email" and then two columns Oracle and Micro$oft starting with cost per user of $60 for Oracle and $126 for Micro$oft. It then continued the comparison of other properties. However, at the bottom of the Micro$oft column was "Costs more, but you also get Melissa, Snow White, Michelangelo..." doug

.htaccess for an exception!

by Aramico

Hi All, I have several subdomain where each is put on the diffrent directory and it has one index.html for each. The thing that I want is, the visitor can only access my html file, so if they want to connect to another page where the location is the same, it must be a password asked for this. My point is, can I defined *.* as protected files where the index.html, fly.jpg are not inlcluded in *.* definition. So, here, the visitor can still freely accessing the my index.html and fly.jpg where they are availbale in every sub domain directory. Thanks!.
