I have a directory which has been shared out using samba. I now need to move some of those files including subdirectories to a windows box running windows 2000 server. From the windows box I can copy files from the samba share but the subdirectories on the samba share fail to copy. Is this a samba issue or a winblows issue? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Mike

reaction-diffusion program

by Gregory Avedissian

I'm trying to run a reaction-diffusion modeling program. Below is the link to the tarball. I was able to install it after editing the makefile (added -LX11R6 to the LIBS section, per generic instructions I found on a google search for the error message I got when make failed.) Here's the current problem: When I try to run the program with the sample parameters given in the readme.txt, I get the error message, "bad status from XAllocColorCells Segmentation fault" Note: I get occasional segmentation faults, possibly due to a flaky power supply. Those seem to be less frequent since I vacuumed the dust and cat hair out of the box. Here's a link to the tarball, in case anyone has the time or inclination to mess with it and/or offer advice. Oh yeah, I'm running SuSE 7.2. http://www.gvu.gatech.edu/people/faculty/greg.turk/reaction_diffusion/code/… Thanks, Greg

shared calendar (web-based)?

by Bill Mills-Curran

I have some guys I work with who would like to be able to use a web-based tool to help schedule ping-pong games. Part of the requirement is that the players don't always have a partner and they would like to advertise available times so that someone else is encouraged to arrange a match with them. I already have an old web calendar program, which works, but I'm not very enthusiastic about it. Does anyone have a recommendation of a web tool that will work? FYI, I'm running Red Hat 8.0. SPARC and modems...

by William Smith

I have a SPARCstation 10 with RH 6.2 loaded. I am trying to get it configured as an Internet gateway, but the big hurdle I am trying to jump over right now is the modem communication. I have checked the PROM settings and they match what I am using minicom with: 57600-8N1. (I am trying to use minicom to debug serial connection with the modem.) When I send commands to the modem, I see the modem is getting information, but it doesn't look like the modem is responding. I don't see an OK reply, much less any other sign of life... The modem in question is a Zoom 56k (it is the one I usually use to connect to the 'Net with, and it has worked with Linux and my ISP flawlessly in the recent past). Once I get past this, then I can look at making sure PPP works (which I anticipate to be a relatively minor ordeal, since I have a pretty good idea what to do), and then firewall stuff. While I think of it, would anyone know of any distributions with more-recent SPARC support? I'd like to see 2.4.x kernels with iptable support, as well as more up-to-date tools, but seeing as this beastie is on the "slow" side, recompiling everything myself would be tantamount to torture.... 8( Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. RE: [Wlug] I need to run some win apps

Hiya Geoff! Are you looking to actually run those programs, or just for equivelant solutions for those uses? If it's the later, I'd strongly suggest checking out Evolution for Email & PIM (palm) functions. http://www.ximian.com/products/evolution/ And you could convert your old Eurdora email file to evolution format with http://freshmeat.net/projects/ceiconvert/?topic_id=28%2C87 A native app will usually be a lot nicer to use, than emulating a windows app. If you absolutely need THOSE apps, you can try wine, which works with some apps, mileage may vary. Or you can use VMWare which will actually emulate an entire computer and let you install windows on that emulated computer. (VMWare is commercial software). There's other options, but those are the 2 that stick out in my mind. Now ... I know nothing about HAM radio, so I'll just say that if you really need to run those specific windows apps, you might have a hard time since (I'm assuming) they somehow talk to the funky hardware. But there are some native apps out there... http://freshmeat.net/search/?q=HAM+radio&section=projects&x=0&y=0 Just a few thoughts. -Marc -----Original Message----- From: wlug-admin(a)mail.wlug.org [mailto:wlug-admin@mail.wlug.org] On Behalf Of Geoff Sent: Wednesday, February 19, 2003 1:39 AM To: wlug(a)mail.wlug.org Subject: [Wlug] I need to run some win apps Hi, I need to run a few windows applications on Linux.
