Toshiba e330 + Linux

I've had a Toshiba e330 for about 3 months now, however it runs windows and I can't interface it with my linux machine. I was curious if anyone had any information regarding putting linux on one of these babies. I plan to get a wireless card and GPS adaptor for it soon, so how would that affect it. Any help would be much appreciated. A bit off topic - phpnuke et al.

I'm posing this question becuase I'm betting some on this list have ventured down the path before me... I'm looking to avoid having to keep up on the latest and greatest web development stuff just to have a useful an interesting site. So, I'm looking for something like phpnuke to convert over to. I am aware of phpnuke, and other similar packages out there. I'm planning on downloading nuke to see what it can and can't do... I wouldn't mind having control over things providing I have the time, but am to the point where I do not want ot have to write code every time I get an idea. I already have a job... So, anyone have a favorite tool, collection of tools, etc., that they would recommend for a person site that supports logins, discussion threads, etc.? Steve

I think you actually might want a vpn between networks ... If you put your wireless network behind a firewall, and then only allow ipsec through it onto your home lan (and I assume onto the internet eventually). Then your vpn uses the wireless network as the untrusted network (instead of using the internet as the untrusted network). Anyone not on the VPN can't get any packets onto the rest of your network. This does 2 things. 1) Encryption like you want so people can't see what you're doing. 2) Authentication - so only authorized people on the VPN can access anything on the rest of the network. This could be a lot stronger protection than WEP gives you. Is anyone out there using freeswan? I'm thinking of repeating my wireless network over to my office after my move and I'm thinking of setting up freeswan to encrypt the traffic more tightly on the network when I do. The howto's I've found have been on setting up a vpn between networks, is it possible to set up freeswan to encrypt traffic on a single lan (until sdmca laws make it technically illegal to do so.....). wireless repeating...

Hi all, We're MOVING! And now I have an opportunity to learn something new... Where we're going, our house is right next to the Church, and the Church offices are 25 yards from the Church and across the street. The Church is made of stone, the office-building is made of brick. Do you think it's possible to somehow put a repeater in the Church that will extend my wireless network the "last mile" so I can have internet access in my study? If so, what would you recommend? hi Wlug, I have a laptop gateway 450sx4 with a video card, "ATI Technologies Inc. Mobility M6", as windows displays it. I could not figure which kernel video module I should load. another question is that what will go to the Driver section of XF86Config in xfree4.3.0? slackware uses vesa as default which does not use any hardware acceleration. thanks for any help, baris

Well I ran gentoo back before it was even 1.0. I've kept track of it over that last year (running redhat myself since I administer all redhat machines), and it has progressed nicley. My roomate swears by gentoo. My biggest problem with gentoo is having to compile everything. Now for most things, I don't mind compiling, however something like XFree or Mozilla, on a slower machine (even a faster one), you will be compiling for days (fortunately I have access to a quad xeon which makes compiling a ton faster). As far as the portage system goes, I believe there is now a way to distinguish whether you want bleeding edge, less bleeding edge, or stable. I actually loved the portage system (and wish redhat had something similar). I'd say try it and see if it suits you. If not, you can always try something else. What's people's experience with gentoo? I'm thinking of upgrading one of my boxes to it in the near future. This is a box I really mess around with, so how bleeding edge can I get? Is it easy to keep some packages at stable releases, and some at unstable, or is it more of an all or nothing thing? I guess what I want is, a way of trying the newest stuff, but an easy way of going back to stable when I'm horrified with how buggy the newest stuff is. printing problem

I'm trying to configure my LPRng print queue to add a banner page to my print job. OS: Red Hat 8.0 Printer/driver: The printer is a Postscript network printer, using the Lexmark 4039 10 plus driver. I'm able to print just fine. I followed the instructions in /usr/share/doc/redhat-config-printer-0.4.24/README for hijacking a printconf spool. Then I added this to the printcap.local: :bp=/usr/libexec/filters/psbanner:\ However, I can't get the a banner page. What am I doing wrong? TIA, Bill

That I ended up having to go to Manchester the next day to get a replacement on. Be leery of buying extensive hardware at shows, make very sure you get a receipt. Asking to see if the static bag is sealed beforehand isn't a bad idea either. You'll either find new stuff, or very old stuff; the in-between isn't very common at all. Personally, I'd rather just run down to Connecticut and hit one of the Cogan shows, as they've got far more vendors than I've seen at any of the Northern shows (don't know about KGP) and that means a far better selection.

I have never had a problem using a credit card at these shows... They do add a 3-6% fee, depending on the card you want to use, so it is better to have cash... Yes, the deals are not what they used to be on current systems, but I have gotten some very good deals on components. Last show I went to, my father-in-law picked up a perfectly good motherboard for $20 and the show before that, I picked up three 8-port switches for a total of $40. Not too shabby! Here is what my shortcuts have for the shows: KGP is the outfit who runs the Marlborough show on Rt 20. Their URL is http://www.pcshow.com The last show I went to at the Centrum was run by NCS (I think) http://www.ncshows.com Basically, they are the same... About a dozen vendors selling "custom systems", as many again selling components, then a whole bunch selling shrink-wrapped stuff you can see in any independent computer shop (video, speakers, cables, etc.). The final category is software (educational or games) and books - but don't pass these over... I have seen some very good prices on the odd piece of hardware at these otherwise skippable tables...
