We've got a meeting tonight! Time: 7PM Date: March 16th, 2023 Location: WPI Student Center Chair's Room 129. Address: 100 Institute Road, Worcester MA. Virtual Location: https://meet.jit.si/WlugMA Topic: Ventoy, docker stuff, printers, pi compute stuff, etc. I thought I'd show off Ventoy which is a multiboot usb that lets you run a whole pile of different distros. It's become yet another tool in my pocket when dealing with weird stuff. We can definitely talk about printers.. I've been deploying lots of Ubuntu 22.04 machines and I've had to delve into the fun that is cups.. I can definitely get on the HP hate bandwagon.. There's some scuttlebutt that Docker is talking about purging all the OSS images of users who don't pony up subscription money.. I'm sure we'll dive off into lots of topics as well. Pi compute boards, personal k8s clusters, etc. As usual snacks and refreshments will be provided and we'll do dinner afterwards and continue the conversation. Hope to see you there! I now believe, after reading the link Danil sent (thx!) ...that Gmail does prevent me from getting an email copy of every post I send (unless I Bcc myself). I'm not chatty on the few other forums I subscribe to, so I'd have never guessed. Just like the new car I bought: too darn smart, but I surrender! Our list server has that quirk, such that when you post a new item OR reply, everyone on the list except you gets a copy/email. I think. Probably? the code/coder decided that you'll know what you sent, and that you have faith in the list server. Also.... you can check the "archive". Correct me if I'm wrong, anyone! You did say: usually you get your own copy/email usually, so it seems a debate. I wouldn't know if tweaking the config to be more giving is an option.

I now have an MFC-L2750DW (duplexing, scanning (though NOT duplex scanning with the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) using gscan2pdf, you have to flip them by hand) and it's working out well. I have an HP Laserjet attached via parallel port to an old Linux machine running a CUPS server. (Common Unix Print system) It works, but they no longer make the print cartridges and the old ones are dryed out and printing grey ghosts all over that make it ugly and nearly unreadable. I print about a dozen pages/month of black and white Postscript or PDF documents, so I don't need speed. Color is just troublesome. I would like to continue to use CUPS through an ethernet cable with RJ-45 plugs. Good evening, I don't know if anyone saw this, but I found my answer at: https://docs.centos.org/en-US/8-docs/advanced-install/assembly_kickstart-an… In the note saying: By default, the inst.stage2= boot option is used on the installation media and is set to a specific label, for example, inst.stage2=hd:LABEL=CentOS-8-BaseOS-x86_64. If you modify the default label of the file system containing the runtime image, or if you use a customized procedure to boot the installation system, you must verify that the inst.stage2= boot option is set to the correct value. So it was a label problem. I was calling mkisofs with the -V switch and an argument that did not match the label in isolinux.cfg for inst.stage2. This caused the boot stall. If anyone saw this, thanks for your consideration. Re-Roll RHEL isos to skip the 60sec countdown and media check

Good Afternoon, I'm trying to re-roll a RHEL9 iso to remove the media check and 60s timeout that occurs because rd.live.check is baked into the kernel command line and grub menu. I'd like to use the result with an unattended install. I start by loop mounting the OEM iso image and extracting the contents to a working dir. In the working directory, I've attempted to edit EFI/BOOT/grub.cfg an isolinux/grub.cfg before rerolling the disk with: mkisofs -o output.iso -b isolinux/isolinux.bin -c isolinux/boot.cat -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table workingdir But after editing either or both, I'm still presented with the 60s default timeout and the media check (rd.live.check) in the kernel commandline. Is there something akin to grub2-mkisofs that I need to do for my changes to the grub.cfg for this iso prior to my re-rolling it? Thank you, Dan

I use a monitor with my laptop all of the time. I don't think your friend will have a problem as long as there is a vga or hdmi port on the laptop. Windows (and Linux for that matter) should automatically configure the monitor to a usable state. Broken Laptop Screen

I have a friend that told me he has kept his laptop stored away because the screen is broken. I do not know if the screen is crack or not operating. I have a monitor from a desktop pc. If I give him the monitor to use with his laptop is there any kind of electrical safety issue? I presume the laptop is windows, and hints on how or if I should tweak the settings? Ron
