Hi. I bought a Ximeta Netdisk (http://ximeta.com/products/netdisk.html) which is an external HDD with both USB and network connectivity. The company explicitly states that the device works with Red Hat 8 and 9, but I've had no luck with it. The drivers are available only as RPMs, no source provided. It's network attached, but it doesn't use a standard protocol. The RPM is supposed to install two modules, nd.o and lpx.o, but they don't show up with lsmod. When I try to load them with insmod or modprobe, I get a bunch of error messages about "unresolved symbols". I though it may have been a dependency problem, so I recompiled to load network block device (nbd.o), but that had no effect. I've tried both RH 8 and 9 fresh stock installs with the same results. Ximeta has stated that they will provide me a new driver, but I'm not holding my breath. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Setiathome is a good distributed program http://www.setiathome.com as well as gimps (can't remember the url). We've currently got 7 (maybe 8?) computers running the distcc daemon right now. Basically, when any one of us compiles something the processess are distributed amongst the computers on the network running distcc. So, my question is, is anyone interested in joining our little group? I figure the more linboxes the merrier. I am not a Mandrake user and I don't know anything about the WPI wireless network. However, here are some commands I have used with the Knoppix distro to connect to my home wireless network using a SSID and WEP: iwconfig eth0 nick "MyLaptop" essid "MyLan" key 1234567890abcd rate auto ifconfig eth0 up pump -i eth0 pump -i eth0 --status ifconfig eth0 Note that the first iwconfig command sets a SSID to MyLan and the WEP key to 1234567890abcd Also, your wireless card may not be on eth0. There is also another option. If you have another computer you can burn a copy of knopix. Once you create the cd, you insert it into the CDROM drive, boot from CDROM to a nice KDE GUI and all partitions are automatically mounted. Click on the partition that has the needed info and you are good to go. It may sound complicated but Knopix has a really fine User Interface. (If you don't have a CDROM you can do the same thing with Tomsrbtb from a floppy) Then when you want to create a boot disk you can open a command window, mount the root partition and then do "chroot /mnt/rootPartition". From there you can run lilo or mkbootdisk. Good luck. Is it the floppy disk or the hard drive that failed? Can you boot the installed system from the cd? Or from windows with loadlin? Norm, This is no big deal if you know what hardware you have. You will need a second linux machine to solve this so perhaps someone will agree to drop by the next meeting with a laptop. 1. Get a machine with mtools, superformat and syslinux installed and a kernel source tree. 2. Recompile a non-modular kernel with support for your hardware and filesystems and nothing else. 3. Insert a floppy and then run: superformat /dev/hd0 4. When that's done run: syslinux /dev/fd0 5. Mcopy the new kernel from /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot to the floppy: mcopy /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzImage a:\kernel.img 6. Open a text file called syslinux.cfg in your favorite editor. 7.
