Is there a simple Unix shell command to list dates backwards?

I'm looking for a standard Unix shell command that can list an arbitrary number of day dates backwards from today. For example, something like this: $ unixcommand -7 Tuesday July 5 2005 Monday July 4 2005 Sunday July 3 2005 Saturday July 2 2005 Friday July 1 2005 Thursday June 30 2005 Wednesday June 29 2005 Command must transit months, years, leap-years, etc. Does gcal, or any other Unix command, have this capability? Freshmeat just provides listing services (unless things have changed recently). Sourceforge provides hosting. A few years ago, I participated by writing a users' guide for a project called Gimp-Print (now being renamed to Gutenprint). I liked using the software but noted that it lacked documentation for the user. I also knew the project lead since we were employed by the same company. I wrote the users' guide and contributed it to the project using the GNU Free Documentation License. At that time, my proverbial itch was thus scratched. I still like and use the software frequently, but alas I have not had time to properly update the manual. In the Linux community, there are tons of way to help out. It all depends on your expertise and your interests. If you are interested in web based projects, you might want to check out any of the PHP projects. Although they are not usually directly related to *nix, they use the same licensing and run on the common LAMP setup. One way to improve the *nix community is to write documentation. Moving boot drive from hdb to hda

I am in the process of recovering my system from a bad drive and have almost succeeded. My system had 2 drives both were very similar in that they each had a version of linux installed with a swap partition and primary partition. The hda drive died in a way that made the mbr unavailable. I switch the drives making hdb hda. I then booted into a rescue mode (Suse) and modified the /boot/grub/menu.lst file and replaced the references for hdb with hda. It now reads kernel (hd0,1)/boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda2 vga=0x31a splash=silent desktop resume=/dev/hda1 showopts initrd (hd0,1)/boot/initrd I also modified the /boot/grub/device.map file. Upon rebooting the system it comes up allows me to choose at the grub menu and proceeds to boot. The boot messages are: Checking root file system... fsck 1.34 (25-Jul-2003) Failed to open the device '/dev/hdb2': No such device or address Warning... fsck.reiserfs for device /dev/hdb2 exited with signal 6. < more messages > file system is currently mounted read-only. This may be a little late but you can use perl to do this the Net::LDAPS module will make secure connections and just use the Net::LDAP::Entry object to insert you data from linux to windows. It turns out that on my system, in /etc/sysconfig/syslog, the loglevel is set to 1. If it is set to 8, then all of the kernel messages will come out on the serial console. If you're running syslog-ng, you can go into /etc/syslog-ng/syslog-ng.conf and add a line: destination console_all { ("/dev/ttyS01"); }; although, I'm not sure if you're locking up if syslog-ng will keep scrolling. I don't know if netcat (nc) will either... Weird...the lowest it will go is 9600 (verified with minicom). I might play with this again to see if I can isolate the PS/2 mouse hardware on the MB (and the software in Linux). I don't have a USB mouse and Staples didn't have any when I visited. Here is what else I did: 9) Ran memtest for 24 hours - no failures 10) Access the offending system from over the network and play the game - - no lockup! 11) The beer_golf game is a swf file, so I downloaded the file and played it locally - no lockup! 12) Only when I play beer_golf in konqueror, over the net, does the system lockup reliably. 13) CPU temps measured independently from the MB are in the low 40 degree C range. Now, with regard to the serial console, I did get that working at least to a certain point. I've connected the serial cable to another Linux system running minicom. I can see the boot and shutdown messages in two locations (minicom/remote and local). However, when the system is running, I don't see the kernel messages on the serial console. When booting from grub, I have "console=tty0 console=ttyS1,115200n8" in that order. I do see the kernel messages in /var/log/messages and in the xconsole window. - From minicom, if I sent the Break character when the system is running OK (before the lockup occurs), that acts like Alt-SysReq. So, Break-? gives me the SysRq help line. Break-T (show tasks) puts output only on the local system (can't see it on minicom). I am not running getty on this ttyS1 since it seems to interfere with my attempts to use the MagicSysReq key. When it was enabled, I did get successfully logged in. When I put the system at run level 1, then all of the Alt-SysReq output goes to the serial console (minicom can see them!). Now, here's the part that I think might be bad. When I run the program which makes the system lock up, the lockup occurs. I then try to use minicom, and I get no output whatsoever. I can't even get the SysRq help output. I fear this may mean I have a real hardware lockup and not a Linux kernel problem. I know this is a lot to digest, and I really do appreciate all of the feedback.
