Yes food and drink are allowed. The class room has lots of plugs along the walls, although bringing out some extra power strips can also happen. We support back to Cambrian era, so Mezozoic is no problem ;). Precambrian however you are going to need to bring your own microscope. Hello, Re: Red Hat and IBM Several weeks ago IBM and Red Hat announced a change to their business licenses for RHEL. Several pundits wrote their opinions about these changes. I carefully read most of them, but I felt some concepts were missing. So I took my time and wrote my thoughts on it. I wrote to you in the middle of writing this article that I would share it with you when it was finished. I will warn you that the article is long. Very long. It is not the article of the TicTok generation, or even the Instagram generation. It is not an article for the faint of heart, but I think it does give a lot of insight into the development of software as an industry, binary-only code and why it happened, Open Source and Free Software. Installing ubuntu on a mac..

So funny enough another Mac fell into my lap and our success with Matt's mac encouraged me to get U22.04 installed on a 2014 macbook pro.. I tried to install using Ventoy only to hit this issue: https://github.com/ventoy/Ventoy/issues/52 I ended up writing the ISO directly to my scratch stick and installing from there. Ron, I hope you find the videos helpful! I think they summarize the issue better than I ever could. Jon, I look forward to seeing your write-up on this issue! I think a lot of the responses I've seen so far are understandable -- Red Hat has an image of being a pioneer in open source development, and closing up source code publication to anyone who isn't a customer is unprecedented and seemingly comes in direct conflict with Red Hat's goals. This is such a controversial development that there's an ongoing Wikipedia discussion on whether RHEL is even considered open-source or is violating the GPL: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux#RfC_about_the_s… That being said, I think the community at large may be having a knee-jerk reaction to this news, which isn't helped at all by Red Hat's fairly poor PR handling. We might just need time to come to an understanding. I would follow the Ars article, they do a good job (when they do them) on giving you various pros/cons of solutions. I use TP-Link EAP-225 wireless APs both at home and at my church and they do a good job. But the real key is to just get antennas which focus the signal where you want it. Most APs try for symetrical singal to cover an area, which isn't what you want. The next step is to do some judicious tree trimming to keep a good line of sight, and ideally putting it high enough so that people and objects don't get in the way and disrupt things. Good luck! I read the article and while I disagree on the advantage of 2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz (because of the absorption of 2.4GHz by the water in the leaves of the trees) I had a thought about where your outbuilding gets its power. Do the power lines run from your house, and if they do why not try Ethernet-over-power? I had originally used Powerline unites to bridge Ethernet from one end of my house to the other instead of running Cat. You just have to make sure that there are no transformers in the way, that it is a straight piece of copper wire from your circuit box to the outbuilding. Hi, I have been writing up a response to this that goes much deeper into the discussion than most articles I have read have done. Because I have been busy doing other things (Board Chair of the Linux Professional Institute, defending the Linux Trademark AGAIN, doing virtual presentations and preparing for a long trip to Latin America) I have not had time to finish it, but I should be able to finish it this weekend. I have given drafts to other LPI board members, many of whom have been in the FOSS space almost as long as I have and some have been in the computer space....no...few people have been in that space as long as I have. So far the comments have been good, some saying it was "great". When it is finished I will post it to the LPI blog (free for everyone to read) and let you guys know. I would also be happy to talk about it in great depth at a WLUG meeting. Spoiler Alert: There is no evil here, and out of it could come great good.
