What is the output of "dmesg" It probally created a serial device in /dev/tts/USB0 or something like that.. The prolific USB-Serial adapter just acts like a plain old rs-232 serial port. Hi all, I need some help! I bought a USB to Serial/parrallel adaptor (IBM 22P5298). Fedora 4 seems to see it in /proc/bus/usb/devices but when I try to hotsync my palm, no connection results. Anyone have an idea as to how to proceed? Thanks in advance! We have had problems with bulging capacitors. After some research, I have found that many different systems have this issue (Dell, Intel, etc. motherboards). Open the BFH (box from hell) and check the caps. They may be bulging on top or even leaking. This is from an electrolyte formula that was stolen from Japan. Good luck! The distribution configs always work for me. They probably see the most testing, if you think about it. One other suggestion: have you checked to see if there are any BIOS updates? I've seen *very* strange problems of the random variety that are really BIOS bugs. If you're really serious about tracking this down, I'd start doing some stress testing to see if you can get a reliable reproducer. Without that, it's tough to address. Or, enable kexec/kdump. There's a quick blurb on it in fedora weekly news, but that's for fedora. -Jeff

Do you have 'third party' modules? It should be no problem having two sets of modules installed, as long as the kernel version numbers are different, since each kernel looks for its modules in a directory with its own name on it. But the new kernel must have new powers. Does SuSE depend on the new stuff? -- Keith

I'm surprised I missed it initially. I'm not a Rommney fan, but I have to give him credit for trying to push this. It's a great initiative which will obviously be expensive to implement early on but will of course save hordes of dough for the state in the end. Thank you all!! re: mozilla-mail Attach File(s) hung up my Fedora 3 machine. The culprit was gamin as Chuck Anderson had suggested. 'yum info' told me that there is a more recent version for Fedora 3. 'yum upgrade' installed that more recent version. The problem seems to have disappeared. Ain't open source grande! You might try getting 'top' running in a terminal window *prior* to running the "Attach files" experiment which messes up your maching so badly. Insure that 'top' is not displaying idle processes, and that it is sorting by CPU usage (the 'i' command and the '<' or '>', as appropriate). I like to keep a copy of xosview running (its a GUI that shows some of the info shown by 'top' without the gory details). When something goes awry, I can see it immediately. I'm not sure what else to suggest since I use neither mozilla-mail nor evolution-mail (I use Thunderbird). Try Chuck's suggestion - I'll bet it works. Next time this happens, try "killall gam_server" and see what happens.. Andy I have a question...

I am embarrassed to admit that I do not know how to figure this out. I am having a problem with both mozilla-mail and evolution-mail mozilla-mail and evolution-mail both use the same process to "Attach file(s)". When I try to attach a file my Fedora Core 3 machine is toooo slow. It ties up the machine for minutes at a time. If I try to move the GUI is smears. "top" does not indicate lack of memory or lack of cpu cycles. I have not had any luck googling for others who have seen this before me. Do any of you WLUGers have a suggestion. My Fedora Core 4 works very quickly. Ken Jones
