That's true. Though, the 28th is now past xmas and likely people are going to be all over the place. For a topic, I was thinking about what VPN options are there for linux at this point? Obviously there's NordVPN, but there's also Proton as well. Something people might be interested in? Great meeting last night!

Last night we had a great meeting! I spoke about my trials and tribulations in using FOSS to run my mini mill. I was good to get back to the presentation format! We talked about cad and cam, controllers, gcode and degrees of freedom, closed loop vs open loop. I then showed off the mill making a wlug logo! Saw dust everywhere!! See you at the next meeting! I am interested in the tool path. Perhaps you can discuss how the tool path flows and provide some idea of your experience with set up to work with the CNC machine. 1) What do you use for CAD?. Do you use STL files as an output? 2) What do you use as an equivalent to a slicer (to generate G-code from the STL file, select bits, etc..). 3) Anything else related to tool path tools or terminology. 4) General impressions, what works, what does not, etc.... I keep hearing less than stellar reviews for the Pi5 so not that interested myself. I keep hearing a lot about the Zima SBCs, both tue ZimaBoard and the ZimaBlade. So about that Pi5..

I went to microcenter on the 23rd of October and they said sorry and said the 3rd of November, and today before I even left the house they say "sold out." I can only speculate on how before they were even on the shelves they were sold out.. but there we are.. With that said, the orange pi 5 keeps looking even more interesting, though it completely blows the price point out of the water at $100.. I think you minght need to poke around in here: https://help.gnome.org/admin/gdm/3.12/configuration.html.en and see what you find. How many logins do you want to show? Ubuntu with SSSD

I have a lab full of Ubuntu 22.04 machines and have (finally) set them all up with AD login via SSSD As i was testing, new SSSD users were added to the Gnome3 Greeter bage. Somewhere along the way with testing, new users stopped being added to the greeter page. The ones added previously automatically are still there, but new ones are not being added. I was wondering what configurations effects this behavior? I want the little kids names added to the list so they can just click on their name and enter their password. If you become desperate with this, it might be worth the time to confirm that your SD card is accepting writes. Creating a text file then verifying that it is still there on reboot should be sufficient. When I had the sd card issue with my PI3 it was otherwise silent (it must have been working from ram). I have heard that SD cards can fail where they stop accepting all writes after too many writes to them. Otherwise, I not of any help. It has been a LONG time since I have used depmod and related, which I assume will be needed to update the kernel modules. Zimma Board

This might be old news and off the Raspberry 5 topic. I have been looking at the Zimma Board for a SBC to mess with. It is a different type of board for a different use case. I am mostly focused on the performance and SATA port(s). I do not like burning out SD cards. Possible uses: 1) open media vault 2 drive NAS 2) Low end (low power, low budget) web page server 3) pihole with a firewall (x86 build) I would like to know if anyone has an opinion on this board.
