I have SUSE 10 installed, and I'm sure it's on the DVD (though I already had Inkscape installed under 9.2.) If it's not there, it's easily available at Inkscape. In fact, it might be better to download it because the version on the 9.n distribution set would not be the latest and greatest. HW

Missing Inkscape from Suse Linux 9.2

Hi All: Recently, I installed Suse Linux Pro 9.2 on an HP laptop. The box the software came in prominently lists, as an included program, Inkscape, the open-source vector graphics editor. The mystery is that I can find no reference to Inkscape anywhere in the system, not even in Yast when searching in the "Install and Remove Software" dialog. Now perhaps I messed up and didn't choose Inkscape during the initial install, but shouldn't Yast still list Inkscape as a "Not Installed" package? My other thought is that perhaps Inkscape is included when you install from the 2 DVD's, but somehow Novell messed up and didn't include it on the 5 CD's. Thanks, Doug

I returned it and got one that was mentioned on the website (above) and have had no problems since. I'd recommend some care with cameras. My Logitech camera uses the pwc driver which has minor issues with Linux. Maybe the USB 2.0 devices fare better. Here are some params: Runs on linux Does not need to be open source but that's a bonus Standard software platform i.e. Java / PHP / Perl based SOE friendly (nice urls, shallow link depth , crawlable catalog) Ability to manage inventory and fulfillment. (this is more of a bonus) Any thoughts ?

Andy, If you're still interested, I can briefly discuss my offer to give a preso (for the Oct meeting) on the SVG application I've developed. If there's interest, great. If not, no hard feelings. I've not had time to port the browser part of the application to SUSE Linux. The XML transformations though, *do* run on Linux (zLinux: IBM's Linux that runs under VM on mainframes). Try downloading a copy of Damn Small Linux (DSL): http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/download.html Note that they have two versions, one with Syslinux and another with Isolinux. If one works and another doesn't, and it is consistent with what you've reported (above), then you have one problem solved (in a sense). DSL has low memory requirements and you can run it off of the CD to see if you like it (and if it is compatible with your hardware). I'm not certain but I think DSL is Debian based. Distributions with Syslinux?

I'm trying to install *nix on an old Gateway2000 120MHz Pentium. Most of the discs (debian 3.1, ubuntu 5.10, phlak, solaris 10, freebsd 5.1, suse 9.0, openbsd, netbsd 1.6.2) I have won't boot on it, giving an Isolinux error (I forget exactly what the error was - it's at home and I'm at work). PHLAK (I forget the version) boots, but locks up with a black screen after it starts X. I'm guessing it boots because it uses Syslinux instead of Isolinux, but I don't know if that's true. netbsd 1.6.2 also boots, and I installed that last night, but I hate the default twm window manager, I don't know how netbsd handles packages (I'm thinking of things like deb or rpm packages), I don't know my way around netbsd, this is an old version of netbsd, and netbsd is probably the wrong choice for what I want to do, anyway. So if you have TapeA in drive1 and TapeB in drive2, and they are both in the same Pool, and you have one big job that runs and fills up TapeA, it should start using TapeB to continue the save. If you have multiple jobs running at the same time, you can tweak the "Maximum Concurent Jobs = " Parameter in the bacula-sd.conf file, and also tweak it in the Bacula Director config file. Re-reading the manual again, I'm thinking that I really need to look into Spooling my jobs (only have four total) so that I don't shoe-shine the drive. As an aside, after running Legato(EMC) Networker for many years, bacula's user interface (cli or gui) feels clunky and painful. It's the biggest problem with the software. In general, it works quite well. I just did a restore of data last night spanned across three tapes and besides having to change them, it ran wonderfully. I just wish I had known ahead of time that I would need those tapes.

I can't figure out how to have 1 job write to both either concurrently, or sequentailly as the job only allows me to pick 1 or the other. Soft error count since last status=0 General status bits on (41010000): BOT ONLINE IM_REP_EN You can also run the bacula command 'btape' on there to make sure you've got things configured properly.
