Aurora - SPARC question....

by Ken Jones

Folks, I've not been WLUG active for a year or more. Back then the half of my 111 gig PC disc which was dual booted with FEDORA developed a permanent error. The other half's XP installation has been OKAY. I have learned to us WINDOWS. Meanwhile my SUN ULTRA running as an Aurora SPARC SAMBA file server since 1993 has been chugging along just fine. I live in Fitchburg. We have been without power for nine days. 110 volts came up yesterday evening. Much to my chegrin my SUN was unhappy. I used a rescueCD to boot. All came back except my ethernet card. It would not start. The little light at the far end on the IP cord does not glow... --------- /etc/rc.d/init.d/network restart says, "Bringing up interface eth0: Determining IP information for eth0 ... failed. [FAILED]" The card is claimed to be a 'sunlance' card. Any ideas? Is the card fried do you think? I have a second SPARC machine. It's ethernet was working last time it was powered. Must I swap? Re: [Wlug] This week's meeting

I would sometime like to discuss sound "issues" on laptops occurring in various recent distros, which may feed into Andy's distro question of several weeks ago. The sound "issues" question might be like discussing various hallucinogenically-produced nightmares that have been induced in non-volunteers by the distro-gods, but it might be nice to air in a forum what has been happening, and what solutions may have been found. Thanks Liz On 16/12/2008, Gregory Avedissian <avedis.g(a)verizon.net> wrote: > We still haven't had a discussion about what distro Andy should use. > > Greg > > > > Eric Stein wrote: > > We already did a talk about how to save power in linux with powertop > > etc, I think... it was a good one. Hi I haven't used GnuCash but I hear its a great program. Has anyone used Openbravo. I just installed it on a local Ubuntu server. I would like to move the instance to an EC2 machine. Does anyone have experience with Amazon EC2 installations? I have an Ubuntu EC2 machine running but need further assistance.
