You don't need DHCPv6 unless you want to control the assignments, do dynamic DNS, etc. such as in a managed network environment. You can instead use SLAAC (Stateless Address Auto-Configuration) which is built-in to every IPv6 host and doesn't require any kind of server. You only need a Router Advertisement service to inform the hosts of the router(s) and global prefix(es) available on the link. You can run radvd on the router to provide this: yum install radvd

DHCPv6 is supported by ISC DHCP. You have to run a separate service (dhcpd -6) since the server only supports one protocol at a time. However, DHCPv6 isn't required to assign v6 addresses. DHCPv6 is only really required if you want control over the assignments such as in a managed network environment. You can instead use SLAAC (Stateless Address Auto-Configuration). This is automatic--no server required. You can run radvd on the router to announce the availablility of the router and global prefix(es) available on the link. yum install radvd

IPv6 config question

Hiya! I've got an old laptop (Sony Vaio PCG-F520) that I've been setting to re-purposing. To this end, I've installed Fedora 10 on it. I've got DNS (IPv4) and DHCP configured on it, and it will eventually be acting as a printserver for an HP LaserJet 4MP. :) My question is this: How difficult (or involved) would it be to add IPv6 support to this? I know about AAAA records, but I'm not so sure what the reverse lookup file would look like. Likewise, I'm not sure about how DHCP would be configured, if I have to touch it at all. Looking for DDR400 (PC3200) RAM

Guys, I'm trying to ressurect an old MSI K8T NEO mother board with an Athlon64 3000 CPU. Unfortunately, I don't have any 184 Pin PC3200/DDR400, PC2700/DDR333, PC2100/ DDR266 or PC1600/DDR200 unbuffered DIMM boards. Probably 512Mb each (I've got three slots), though bigger is always better, right? I'd be willing to travel in the worcester area tomorrow to do a pickup, or hit a store with some if anyone has any suggestions other than the guys in Northboro on Rt 20. Thanks, John

Hi Jason, I think you will run into two issues with being a straight Linux OEM. The computer OEM business generally has a relatively low barrier to entry and it's largely commoditized, thanks to Dell, HP, etc. To make it work, I think you will need to specialize in some way such that it would be cost/time prohibitive for new businesses to enter your target market. Perhaps you could create a blackbox application of your Linux hardware or learn particular industry that has specific needs (and money ;-), like Legal, Green Energy, or Medical Records. Right now you are competing with Dell nationally and PC Plus et al locally :-/. In both cases, your established competitors can probably cut their prices to cost for awhile to compete. I think it will be hard to get started. looking for PHP 5.2.x help

Guys, I'm looking for some help with PHP5.2.x hacking on a web site to cleanup how the user submitted search form is handled. Basically I want to make it simple for the end user to a) refine their query, b) not have to answer popups if they hit the reload button, and c) so I can leanr more PHP. I found this nice reference: http://us2.php.net/manual/en/language.variables.external.php which has two sections by "wayne" and "Jonas Lindel" talking about how you can take the results of a PHP POST request, stuff the vars into your session, and redirect back to the same page without the POST vars set, then complete the query. The idea is so that when people hit the "back" or "reload" buttons, they don't keep getting asked whether they want to resubmit their data. It's not strictly needed, but it would be a nice cleanup of the interface. I had read that at least one of the Samsung Syncmaster monitors really does (allegedly) work at 120 Hz. If that doesn't produce anything, then the X version is older than X.Org, because X11R6 was renamed X at that point. Try running the above command, but use "X11R6". Also, look at the logs directory, in /var/log there will be either X.org logs or XFree86 logs. Look at the top of those and that should tell you what version you are running. While you're at it, email us the log and we can diagnose the problem better.
