Eric and all, Here are my notes from the STEM discussions. Snap Circuits - a lego type electronics education kit. I recommend the 300 or 500 size kits. At 8 my son can solo follow plans and build a FM radio receiver that works. Lightbot - program logic thinking for young kids. Scratch - visual object programming via flash website. . . . . . . code.org - sample scratch programs Alice 3 - app is not very stable. . . . . . . - more powerful and complex items Squeak - What-if. Xkcd.com Theoatmeal.com Rasberry pi robot Tim included some ther non kid / STEM discussion about the systems tools with Hadoop for rapid system building & clustering. Since the meeting I found two more I plan to try with my 8 year old. . Dragonbox Algebra - unique app for learning Math. & Algebra. . IOS & Android. WLUG Meeting Sept 10th, 2015 @ 7:00pm !!!DIFFERENT LOCATION!!!!

Hey Gang, Sorry for the late notice... Kids, school, etc. Firstly, we will be meeting in Rm. 203 Stratton Hall: http://maps.wpi.edu/map/?id=609#!ce/6603,11184?ct/11184?m/105250 Speaking of which, our topic is going to be about STEAM (Science Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) oriented educational things that are built with or work on linux. Basically I see this as a round table for people to talk about some of the cool stuff that's out there for kids these days. I've got scratch loaded on my machine so I can give a demo of that. I've also got Alice and google blocks as well. I'll also bring along my copy of snap circuits. This is an open venue. Feel free to do some research and find something cool. Like always, there will be refreshments provided and we'll convene at Tech Pizza afterwards to continue to banter. How about another BBQ, since I missed the last one, LOL! (J/K) The topic of 'kids-oriented programming, circuits and robotics' sounds good to me. ;-) Somewhere in my house I have an old R/C tank that my Dad gave to my son when he was 5. And then when he was just 6 years old, my Dad passed, so the tank became even more valueable to Joe. But somewhere along the line, it died (electronically, probably due to Joe playing with it in the snow, LOL!), so I started to convert it to use an Arduino to control it, and intended to intended to use Bluetooth modules to communicate between the Arduino controlling the motors and the Arduino reading the controls on the remote. But, alas, like many of the projects that I start, I got side-tracked by life and never got back to it... But I could probably find it and 'ressurect' the project in time for the meeting and do a little 'show-and-tell' about it. Heck, maybe I can use it to get my son (who's now 24) into programming and electroncis... ;-) Jeff I don't have anything to contribute, but I'd love to hear what others are doing in this area. ---- Sent from my Android device with K-9 Mail. help with CentOS webserver

Hi, I ought to know all this stuff by now, but I'm having some issues with my (new) webserver. Mainly connectivity/iptables stuff. If anyone feels like coming out to Sutton and tweakin' for a while, I will reward them with beer and/or stirfry. I'm here all weekend, cleaning out my basement. Or next weekend if that's better. Circular drive = (2) good entry+exit, No tower for landings, no rules. Extra points for brave parking mid-circle (oh no! can't be trapped!). Then, extra points for trapping your friends.
