I got a confirmation email on the 24th and can confirm I'm getting new messages from the list. I regret missing the meeting on the 12th, looking back I was knee deep in Google Workspace scripting and got completely time warped. See you all at the next meeting! Very cool! The meeting went great. I ended up doing an inadvertent demo of the kernel when I had jitsi going, a compile on 2 of my 4 cores, plus running cad and my machine just kept on chugging. Technocopia was having a holiday party so we had lots of people wander in as well. All in all, it was great. Tim. If you can boot Ubuntu 16, then you should be able to download the install ISO for 20 and copy that using 'dd' to the thumb drive. Or download an install 'ventoy' onto a thumbdrive, so you can have multiple different ISOs on one thumb drive and boot from which ever one you want. > Error msg: ... not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown > block(0,0) I will greatly appreciate any help. This sounds like your Ubuntu 20.x install went south. Was this a new install or your current system? Did you apply any updates before this problem came up? So I think what you want to do is boot an Ubunto 20.04 or 20.10 ISO, and then go into 'rescue' mode or shell mode. I honestly forget. But the idea is to then get into your setup, chroot to your old non-booting setup and re-run the 'update-grub' or 'update-initramfs' tools to rebuild your setup. But we do need more details. Would it be possible for you to bring the computer to a WLUG meeting? People would be able to help you there more quickly than over email. I might or might not be there tonight, and I'm busy all weekend with other stuff. > George Caplan > Acton, MA > email: gmcaplan(a)gmcaplan.org > Phone: 978-263-5288 (landline, no texts) > On 2024-12-10 5:57 am, Tim Keller via WLUG wrote: > Good, you passed the test! > On Mon, Dec 9, 2024, 9:57 PM Keith Wright <kwright(a)keithdiane.us> wrote: > Tim Keller via WLUG <wlug(a)lists.wlug.org> writes: >> We've got a meeting this Thursday at Technocopia in Worcester! >> Time: 7PM >> Date: Dec 12th, 2024 "20241224" > Wow! This built in virus protection should catch most obvious malware. I would also recommend Firefox with the uBlock Origin extension. Write semantic HTML, add <link rel="stylesheet" href="https://latex.vercel.app/style.css"> to the <head> of your project and you are good to go. The source code can be found on GitHub at https://github.com/vincentdoerig/latex-css.

Then alot of issues just go away... this is what I did for my mother-in-law and it works great. First one lastest 10 years, second one was only bought because she needed at 64bit compatible one. As for Windows Anti-virus, just use Windows Defender. But the key thing to do is to make her an non-admin user account on there. That helps block alot of problems. So if she does need to install new apps or such, she has to type the admin password in to install them. This slows things down from malicious programs. John

More and more, I'm finding myself not that interested in posting anything about myself or my family because I don't need some AI algorithmically categorizing me. Even this email I'm sure is being analyzed by google.. gmail is free for a reason.. I had an idea and that was this. Would people be interested in a mastodon server running inside a tailscale mesh? Or some other service, like IRC or https://revolt.chat/ or I'm sure other people have other great ideas. My plan is to show off a pi running mastodon and/or revolt with tailscale. I'd love to hear people's thoughts about this. If people even think the tailscale stuff is needed. So that's my thought for what we might talk about. As usual, there will be dinner afterwards and I'm sure we'll keep talking. See you there! Tim. -- I am leery of the allegiances of any politician who refers to their constituents as "consumers".
