Get a router, like $49 or something. Uplug the cable modem. Plug in your ethernet cables to the router, configure it to work...DHCP WITH NAT. And set it up as a dhcp server. Plug back in your cable modem after you plug in it's ethernet cable to your router's wan port. You should now have eveything working. BTW, HP tech support told me to run a batch command yesterday to figure out why my cursed restore disk didnt' work any more. It ERASED MY PARTITION TABLE. I was ready to spit nails. The last back-up is a month old, that is my fault; but do you THINK that maybe you'd get a warning that you we're running more than just a diagnostic? I EXPLAINED that both OS's worked fine, but I was going to be resizing my XP partition and wanted to be able to start from scratch. But does anyone listen, no! So, they wanted me to send in my laptop to be "reimaged" I'd be without it for a week. It's bad enough that I've lost my books database (can't FIND that back up, I hate moving stuff around); but you want me to send in a laptop to get a bit changed on the bios so my computer will match the restore disk (a bios update created the incompatability)!!! Guess what you can do with THAT idea. I asked for a full version of XP to be sent to me, "I'm sorry, the license we have don't allow us to do that." I asked that if I sent in my laptop could I get it formatted in fat32 instead of blasted ntfs, "I'm sorry were not set up for that." The fex-ex guy came for my laptop and I said, "I'm sorry, it's not going anywhere." Guess what OS is no longer on my system? I am so fed up at being treated like a criminal by companies that I give my MONEY to that I'm not interested in playing anymore. I DO have win98 installed via win4lin, for ONE program; but hopefully even that will one day have a linux version. Here's and idea, we should have a "burn all your MS licenses day." Well, when i run xf86config, and select the card it tells me that it is unsupported. FS: Webramp 200i with 2nd modem

Cleaning house again... I've got a Webramp 200i with an internal modem and a second BOCA 56k modem (modems can be independently operated or bonded together if your ISP allows it) that I used before I got cable internet. Was working when it was taken out of service. Allows modem sharing with its internal 4 port hub. No docs or CD with it but easily found on the Web at: http://www.rampnet.com/rampnet/support/200i/index.html eBay is getting about $60 for them now. WLUG special!... First email committment for $30 and payment and pick up at my home in Worcester gets it. Some people learn things in different ways. If reading HOWTOS was the best way to do something, why do we have WLUG meetings? I wouldn't see these as being comprehensive overviews of whatever we're trying to teach, but more like a WLUG presentation where we show the beginnings of one "cool" thing. I think this would be great for people who have heard of linux, but never tried it out before... The real newbies, the people who don't want to wade through pages and pages of documentation just to get an idea of what they need to do. Take the first video that was suggested, "What is linux and why it's good" I think a 15 minute video can show linux off more than reading about it for hours. Another person had suggested advocacy style videos, I would assume this would be "built in" to any video we made. If we make one on how to set up a small business server (mail, file sharing, dhcp, dns), then we would also mention why it's better than other solutions. Hell, maybe that video could even be used by employees to help sell management (who doesn't want to read through *any* technical documentation) on the linux idea. And yes, this is a lot of work. I wouldn't expect us to do more than one video a month. Lets take 60 for n ... 15 minute video equals 15 man-hours of work. 5 people working on it means they'll have to spend a full work day a month (I'm assuming video production is like programming where you don't scale linearly by throwing more people at it). Hi, I have been very interested in this thread (being that I am in the Community TV business). Instructional videos are fine, but what we might want to think about is an advocacy video. Teaching people how to use software can fill up a 29 minute time slot rather quickly (and still not cover the entire subject!). I would be willing to help out in any way I can. Walt P.S. Hi I've been listening to this thread and perhaps it is just generational disconnect but I cannot visualize what you could do with video that you could not do better with text/html/jpegs etc. Video is good if there is something to be viewed (for example, a trip to a foreign country, a beating heart in a Physiology course, the characteristic gait of a patient with Parkinson's disease, a football play etc.) But, in my experience, what you need if you are trying to learn how to do something, is usually a cookbook (this highlights a general weakness of man pages, they tend to leave out real-life examples). So I guess the questions are, do people think this is still a good idea (as opposed to an idea made after consuming too much beer). Would people be willing to help?
