Wikipedia has an enormous article (the Citations alone are 11 pages two column) but the last thing on the page seems to say that Wine is no longer for playing Windows games on Linux, but that MS needs it to prop up the ass end of their sorry operating system. Is the monopoly gone? The radio also speaks of Nvidia. They sell those Invidious graphics cards. The ones that need special secret drivers that only work if you have the right *.dll? It seems that everyone now needs them to do Artifical Intelligence (all rise). Have they changed their attitude, or is it like: "Here's your AI. Pay the monthly bill to retain your licence to use it. Any attempt to try to find out what it does or how it works will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law of Connecticut."? -- Keith

It all depends on how anal her $WORK is and how effectively they've locked down things. From the sounds of it, you really need to be looking at a pure web based solution. Maybe even a remote desktop. It's not something I've had to do though... But I do have a $WORK latop which won't let me use thumb drives without using bitlocker on it, which makes it a pain to trasfer files to linux systems. And what I see is painful. But maybe a bitlocker thumb drive which holds a copy of important file. Or maybe she can do somrhing on her phone instead?

Work laptop and she wants access to files regardless of location (work, home, road). I tried Proton drive for 15 minutes this week. As a secure file storage drive, it works. Tested it with a PDF file and could not click on PDF to open file in any PDF viewer. I guess its secure, but not ready for wife. She would just start copying files elsewhere in C: to get things done, making any security foolishly pointless. Still considering wife support options. Thinking currently about a hybrid option. Lots of these files in laptop C: drive folders, unsecured, fast and easy. Good for prior work at prior companies, most word, spreadsheet PowerPoint, pics, etc. Then certain "precious" files on a fast USB thumb drive at home (resume, anything with taxes, income, ID or social). Windows 11 wife tech support - replacement for Veracrypt

Haven't been able to make a LUG meeting in a few months. Hope all are well. I know it's not the focus of WLUG, but have a Windows based, wife tech support issue. She is in Finance, not technology, and therefore only uses Windows 11 laptop provided by her employer. For years she has had a TrueCrypt, and now a VeraCrypt drive she uses for 'eyes only' stuff like resume and private personal item's. Her new employer locks down Windows, not allowing running of an EXE or MSI without an admin password. So I cannot continue trend running Veracrypt as either installed or as Veracrypt portable. Size of files to secure is reasonable at about 550MB today. I am not a fan of USB thumb drives for data reliability long term. To many LT flaky or dropped in puddles. I am thinking an encrypted Internet Drive setup, something like Proton Drive or similar. Any known Windows options for me to try for my wife? Thank you, Joel
