I can't find where the upgrade made the difference, but both my scanner and my cdrom behave now. I've got the right symlinks, too. Just a tip... Don't try to figure out the udev stuff in a hurry. Not sure what version of samba you are running (I'm running 3.0.9-r1), but I almost exactly copied the config files from the samba howto for a small business network (chapter 4 or 5) and it worked like a champ on the first try. Then again, my file/print server is running Gentoo. Are you sure that your config files are correct? Things are moving so quickly these days, that you may have encountered a bug that has already been fixed in an update. cups has been updated 4 times since FC3 release. samba has been updated 2 times since FC3 release. selinux-policy-targeted has been updated 9 times since FC3 release.

I'm floundering trying to get my fedora 3 machine to act as a print server for an WinXP machine. The linux box is freshly built, and I just moved my printer from my redhat 9 machine. What works: 1. When I start the smb daemon, I get the following in the smbd log: [2005/01/22 18:14:51, 0] printing/nt_printing.c:nt_printing_init(383) nt_printing_init: error checking published printers: WERR_ACCESS_DENIED This looks like the problem to me, but I'm not sure. Soundcard gone bad?

Hi, I have a soundblaster pro sound card that has been working well for several years. Tonight with I started xmms to listen to some music I get a very distorted sound at a very low volume. To test whether the speakers my be the problem I unplugged the external speakers and plugged in a set of headphones directly into the card and get no sound out of the headphones. The last time I listened to music everything was working well. The machine has not been rebooted since the last time I used the sound system. Is there anything else I can do to determine if the soundcard has failed or if the problem lies elsewhere. Thanks, Mike

LTSP Linux Administration.

Howdy, We at the Worcester Computer Co-Op had an install fest a while ago where a few people said they might be able to do some administration for us. If anyone is still up to the task we would very much appreciate it. This is what we need. 1.Updating our network with new software (this can probably be done remotely?) 2.Getting more machines on the network( we have a strange system, but have 30 computers which are exactly the same and could be used for for the network. if someone could figure out how to get one on the network we could easily get all of them) Thanks to all who have helped in the past your time made it possible to give 10 computers to 10 families!!!! It doesn't unless you have just posted something incorrectly, and feel that you should click the little (and I do mean little) "Show options" link to see why you just humiliated yourself. Of course, if you were to just look at the to: field write about your reply text, you would probably notice who the actual reply goes to, but it's not really one of those things that you (and by 'you', I mean 'I') think to double check. Aw well, live and learn. Now that I know, I will probably double-check for days, maybe weeks, before I lose interest, and forget until the next time ;). So yeah, anyone want a gmail account, I've got a bunch of invites to give away ;P. <plug> Honestly, despite my storry of temporary incompetence (what, it *was* temporary) gmail is actually really nice. It, like pretty much everything that google does, blows any competition it might have out of the water.
