Andy, I'm pretty sure I don't know the answer to your question, but I want to say that in my limited experience, blaming the power supply is overrated. I got a new power supply to correct lockups and seg faults on the advice of my neighbor, and it didn't help at all. So I'm wondering if I bought a bad one. Are you getting the same errors with the new drive that you got with the old one? Now, my neighbor is suggesting that it's the power company, screwing around with the waveform, so that the meter doesn't show the power loss from everyone's a/c units running in this weather. Sounds reasonable to me, especially since I've had a few lockups when I was running windows, and it seems to be worse when the weather is hotter. More SCSI hard drive woes

HI everybody, I recently sent a SCSI drive back to Hitachi for warranty replacement. In the interim, I purchased a Maxtor replacement drive. It has been working fine for about 2 weeks, and now this new drive is tossing read errors at me(!). Did I just get (un)lucky, or could something in my system be causing this? Some have suggested checking the power supply. I've run memtest and it passed for a 12 hour test. I've swapped ports on the 2-port SCSI card. I'm at a loss as to why this continues to occur. Mike, Just called 1-877-4-turing and they said there are no more "system 3.0" systems left and the "system 4.0" systems only come with 256MB RAM. The guy I spoke to wasn't willing to come down on the price at all, but agreed to give me the 512MB RAM for an additional $25. Just wanted to let everyone know what they were willing to offer me. I recently setup a new server at my house and this was the first time I actually sent e-mail on it using pine instead of from evolution. The sending domain in pine is fixed now, and my server should accept e-mail address to that domain just in case. If the load won't kill the machine, an easy way to do this is by setting up a transparent squid proxy. http://www.squid-cache.org/ Then the squid logs will tell you who accessed what fairly easily. Monitoring Web content

I have a few machines connected to the internet via a linux box that runs NAT. I need to know which websites are being accessed by the internal machines. IPTraf is installed, so I have the information, my question is if there is a utility already out there to format it into something more easily readable? I want to be able to see that machine A accessed site XYZ.com and how often they did so. I know that ipchains will print out the current masq'd connections, but has anybody played with the logging feature? Unfortunately, this machine is highly used, and I can not just start randomly modifying the ruleset. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanx! -Malcolm
