loading modules

I have a situation where I need to use a non-standard kernel module in place of one that comes with the RedHat 8.0 distribution, and I'd like to know the "right" way to achieve this. The module is a device driver for a Qlogic fibre host bus adapter. The reason for the special module is that the one that RedHat supplies does not handle all the fibre configurations we (EMC) need for an EMC/Clariion array. Here's what I've done thus far. 1. I have written an rpm to build the module from source and install it. I have given the module a unique name so it won't conflict with the kernel rpm file. 2. Once installed, I can run depmod, rmmod (on the old module) and modprobe (on the new module). (If I reboot, I don't need to run depmod.) Everything looks fine at this point, and I know I could put the appropriate commands (rmmod & modprobe) into /etc/rc.d/rc.local, but I'm wondering if there is something cleaner. One thing I tried (with no success) was to modify /etc/modules.conf **************** Old: alias scsi_hostadapter1 qla2200 New: alias scsi_hostadapter1 newmodule **************** I thought that this was the line that was making the standard module (qla2200) load. Hi Adam, I actually have an FIC KT133 (Not KT133A) lying around which you are welcome to. I think there might have been a problem with the floppy port but I ended up upgrading the MB instead of trying to diagnose the real problem. The board definately boots. Need a KT133 machine

Not specifically Linux related, but... Are any of you fellow AMD fans? If so, are any of you running an Asus KT133 motherboard? I desparately need a machine to place an HD into to do a Disaster Recovery :-/. Chipset fan on mine blew and the board seems to have fried :(. As always, I'll have a copy of SuSE on hand. Most likely, I'll bring 8.0, but I might actually have 8.1 by then. :-) I also have a copy of UnitedLinux 1.0-beta3 if anybody cares. Lastly, if anybody shows up that reads Chinese, they can have a copy of RedFlag Linux that I downloaded just for kicks. FYI: I'll be in California from Oct 13 - Oct 22 inclusive. I should be reading e-mail during that time, but if I seem a little quiet, that's probably why. Email Addresses & Spam

Is there any way of getting the email addresses in our mailing list archive removed? I've been getting a bunch of spam lately to hughesm(a)tomsnyder.com ... I just figured out that it was coming from a web spider (the damned fools attached their mailing list to the spam, and it said where it was from!) and the only place I can find that address posted is on the WLUG pages. Archive: http://mail.wlug.org/pipermail/wlug/ Anyone else get the "BUSINESS ASSISTANCE" from "kabila [lmkcg(a)yahoo.com]" a bunch of times today? -Marc
