There's seriously a new buffer overflow announcement every week, and it's rather bothersome. I'd be happy to just use the pop3 support in whichever mail client I'm using, but they all seem to be using the Fetchmail code. Perhaps we need OpenFetchmail? ;-) -b

Also, it should be noted that whatever version of fetchmail you've got on your machine, your going to want to upgrade it ASAP. A couple buffer overruns (via malformed mail) were just reported the other day... Maybe you want .fetchmailrc, here's mine: skip gis via pop.gis.net protocol pop3 username "kwright" password "MYOB", is "kwright" here and here's the script that runs it #!/bin/bash /usr/local/bin/fetchmail -v gis of course you have to change what you must change to get your stuff intead of mine. Here's what I found... 1. /etc/sysconfig/hwconf is written at boot time. I have no idea what part of the boot sequence writes it, but the modification date suggests that it's very early. 2. I had to modify the line in /etc/modules.conf before running mkinitrd. This was special because the HBA is seen as a SCSI device. For other devices, the --preload=module and --with=module options would probably work. mkinitrd is a script, so you can read it to see where it's getting data. After booting, lsmod showed that the right module was loaded. Charles, thanks for the great hint. Bill
