Awesome. I'll have to try to make it to an upcoming event. I was thinking about setting up either a Matrix server for chat, or a Lemmy server for a reddit-like set of discussion forums. Count me in! I have been working on a book on the topic for a few years on and off. Fyi just about every meeting of Robot Club turns into one of those sort of discussions. We meet at technocopia Saturdays 1-4. Intersection of Open Source and Social Change

Hey folks, At dinner after the last meeting we had an interesting conversation around the intersection of software/technology and big picture social change. This has been an area of interest of mine for a while now, and I'd love to connect with other people who would be interested in talking about ways to make meaningful change. Would anyone be interested in joining a discussion on something like Discord, Slack, or maybe an open source alternative? -- Greg Boyce

Pulls out a walker.. Why, when I was just a wee linux lad, installing linux was an huge pain in the ass.. not like these days when you can just boot from an ISO.. from a usb stick.. you needed three floppies and a zip drive!! Then you'd accidentally "dd" your hardrive (hd0) trying to create a floppy image so you could install the ppp program!! These days installing linux is far easier than it ever was, but there's still interesting corner cases and odd devices that getting linux installed on them can be tricky. Tim. Meeting tomorrow!! Topic: The tao of linux.

Hey Everybody! Date: August 8th @ 7PM Location: Techncopia, 44 Portland st. Worcester MA Virtual location: https://meet.jit.si/WlugMA We've got a meeting tomorrow! I'm planning on giving a short talk on the history of linux, how we got here, where are we going, why it matters and delve into some unix history and philosophy.. i.e. "everything is (mosly) a file.. no really.." I fully expect all the usual suspects will also have interesting tidbits to add, corrections to make and generally it should be an interesting talk to help people new to the FOSS world and in particular the linux world why we love linux and why we think it's great. As usual we'll head off for dinner afterwards and keep the conversation going! I hope to see you there!
