Check with your vendor for an updated BIOS. Some have bugs where they have locked things down too much, and don't provide a good way around it as I recall. Haven't had to make this leap myself yet... UEFI Blues

I used to build PCs for myself, family and friends as a side hobby many moons back but as it became more of a headache I fell out of it for the most part. But recently I decided to replace the PC I have had since 2007 even though it was working fine for my needs. I really wanted an SSD drive, USB 3.0 and less power consumption. So all the headaches immediately returned and I remembered why I don't like to build these any more. I was able to get the hardware issues I encountered resolved, but them I was hit with the UEFI problem when trying to install and dual-boot Windows 10 and Linux Mint. I'm finding lots of help pages but none have worked for me. Maybe because I have a newer MB (Gigabyte GA-Z170MX with an Intel I5 6400). So I wonder without burdening anyone for specific instructions, can anyone provide any general thoughts or guidelines regarding UEFI, Windows 10 and Linux? I'm thinking it might be impossible to dual-boot with my setup but I hope not. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! -- Gary

You're thinking of lsyncd: https://github.com/axkibe/lsyncd It's essentially a daemon that watches one or more directories via inotify, and fires of incremental rsync processes whenever it sees writes go by (though you can specify filters rather than a simple bit for bit copy). Block-level remote file sync?

Hi all, I recall someone giving a lightning talk on this quite a while ago (Chuck I think, about 2 years ago!). I was hoping to set up a simple backup solution with my son. He'd replicate his data to my system, mine to his. Now, the interesting part, was I think that the replication method someone used was a lazy write to the backup location with a folder watching process or something. I don't think I want to set up DRBD for this, but I would like an efficient backup operation (e.g. would be nice to be able to efficiently backup written chunks of a file with an EFS system on it). Subject: New TV Suggestions

Late to the party. Been that kind of busy week Replaced 36 inch tube with a 55 inch LCD around 4 years ago. Bought the best TV to match the imperfect eyeballs in our home. It's personal what we all see and how well. We went with Samsung UN55D7000. Amazon shipped new was best deal around then. Would do it again (that model and via Amazon). LCD gets fed signals by: Charter Cable Box with DVR Have extra info on DVR tricks via ESata if others have this setup. Samsung blu ray player about 4 years old (no WIFI, no apps) mostly used for redbox rentals. Denon AVR 2112ci receiver & speakers key here is HDMI and "ARC" so TV & receiver share volume and inputs. It is a video source too ksetup & stations) Recently OSMC distro to play KODI on a Raspberry Pi 3 - excellent for video unsure if it works for me with music (mp3 and streaming). Older Roku 2 (likely go to OSMC or Roku 4 soon) used for Intertube streaming of Netflix / Showtime /HBO / etc. It still works but now is *wonky* and needs power reboots every other day. Nice site! But Visio wasn't the recommended one for larger sizes, just "The Best TV Around $500" 43" model: "The 43-inch Vizio uses a VA-type LCD panel while some other displays (including the 49-inch M-series) use an IPS panel. While IPS panels offers wider viewing angles, making them good for a bar or restaurant, their black levels and contrast ratios are much worse. The VA-type LCD panel on our pick offers very good black levels. The local dimming features improve on that. So for most people, the sizes that use VA-type panels will look far better in your home, unless you usually watch from off to the side." Their "Best TV" was the Samsung JU7100 at $1598. They also review receivers and speakers... There's pretty much no such thing as a "dumb" TV in today's consumer market. If you find one, it'll be an off brand. I bought the Vizio M55 last month and like it. It's GUI is simpler and thus less cumbersome than the Samsung TV we have. It's also 4K if that matters to you. The site my cohorts keep pointing me at is the wirecutters... who recommend the Visio M##-C1 where ## is 43,49,50,55,60... I've also heard of people who are quite happy with Samsung TV's though honestly I have a Roku so I'd rather spend the money on picture quality then on smartness. My recommendation would be Sony as far as image quality and reliability go. Their newest series of smart TVs integrate Android TV, which is actually good, so that's another plus.
