Looking for a used power supply

by Mike Peckar

One of my clone's power supplies died - it's a standard PC-like power supply, but the motherboard connector has 20 pins. I had some similar power supplies lying around, but they had more/different motherboard pinouts.. I'm willing to trade for a free beer after the next meeting.

RE: [Wlug] High-speed access questions

by Martin, Eric

It just means that they won't support it. Charter will add $30/mo I believe....Verizon Does PPoE, get get ready to recompile your kernel if you aren't using a router (which you are, so it doesn't matter). Once you have a router plugged in, your internet connection becomes just a regular lan, and TCP/IP takes over, not Verizon or Charter... -----Original Message----- From: Gregory Avedissian [mailto:avedis@rcn.com] Sent: Wednesday, March 31, 2004 12:36 PM To: wlug(a)mail.wlug.org Subject: [Wlug] High-speed access questions It seems like most of the providers say that you need windows or mac to use their DSL or cable internet. Does this just mean they won't offer tech support for linux, or does it mean that it won't work? I'm planning on using a router and having two computers connected. Has anyone had luck with linux and Verizon DSL? They're down to $35/month, and they give you the modem. Anyone know of better deals? Thanks. I keep getting my messages being held up for moderator approval due to a suspicious header. Anyone know why this might be? I'd like to get this solved, and I'm sure the moderator doesn't want to keep approving my messages. Joel joel(a)Jyng.com

RE: [Wlug] RedHat 9 Network Problem

by Joel Young

I haven't had a chance to get the requested files off yet, but to answer your router question, pings don't seem to be going out the ethernet board at all, even when I setup a static IP. It's a netgear router which has a default address of 192.168.0.1. I also tried the Linksys default of 192.168.1.1. I also tried to ping other computers on my network. I'll try to get copies of the requests config files and post them here tonight. > -----Original Message----- > From: wlug-bounces(a)mail.wlug.org > [mailto:wlug-bounces@mail.wlug.org] On Behalf Of Martin, Eric > Sent: Wednesday, March 31, 2004 11:16 AM > To: 'Worcester Linux Users Group' > Subject: RE: [Wlug] RedHat 9 Network Problem > > > He has a router in between, shouldn't have anything to do > with your ISP. He has a router in between, shouldn't have anything to do with your ISP. Can you ping your router? Also, is it possible that your routers ip isn't 192.168.1.x? Maybe you did a firmware upgrade? -----Original Message----- From: aramico(a)duahati.com [mailto:aramico@duahati.com] Sent: Tuesday, March 30, 2004 8:47 PM To: Worcester Linux Users Group Subject: Re: [Wlug] RedHat 9 Network Problem Still get this problem ? Perhaps you can, but I find it valuable to have the actual login names and email addresses de-linked. One aspect (admittedly minor and debatable) is security. Login names can't necessarily be determined by email address. It also makes it easier to set up multiple accounts per-user: i.e. one for an "internal" persona, and another for "external" for mailing lists and such to help with spam control. Should an account name get leaked onto spam lists, changing a mail address shouldn't impact the user's login account. Just some thoughts. - Bob

Yes, aliases work fine. however i was looking for examples of problems of creating a login account of first.last as the username. I tried this several years ago and had some problems. I need to convince a electricical engineer CTO type guy that hardly knows anything about unix systems. >> I'm sure you all have see people with e-mails of first.last(a)domain.com >> Is this easy to do with linux? > > I think think of a few ways... depending on your MTA... why not just setup > an alias to first.last(a)domain.com to karl(a)hiramoto.org > > Maybe I'm not understanding your question thorougly ;) > > Cheers > > -- > Chris Aniszczyk > Gentoo Developer - http://www.gentoo.org - > http://cia.navi.cx/stats/author/zx > http://pgp.mit.edu:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0x274A275F > > _______________________________________________ > Wlug mailing list > Wlug(a)mail.wlug.org > http://mail.wlug.org/mailman/listinfo/wlug > -- Karl Hiramoto <karl(a)hiramoto.org> Work: 978-425-2090 ext 25 Cell: 508-517-4819 Personal web page: http://karl.hiramoto.org/ AOL IM ID = KarlH420 Yahoo_IM = karl_hiramoto
