Some of these boxes, internally run linux. For example if you have Dish Network (Echostar) their DVR box runs linux. http://linuxdevices.com/news/NS3193876970.html Chuck R. Well, even if you had a DVB card, you most likely wouldn't be able to descramble the channels anyway, so you'll still end up needing to use your cable/satellite box with MythTV anyway. I just noticed that my Charter digital cable box has SVIDEO out... and the HD-3000 has SVIDEO in, so I'll probably go this route.

Cable and over the air use different encoding, so I don't think and rf modulator, broadcasting the cable signal is going to get you an acceptable OTA signal. I was looking at that card for a while and was tempted, but the key catch is that it only supports off the air signals. Meaning you need an antenna. You can't use it with your cable or satelite system. But, if you're already watching HDTV off an antenna, it seems like a great way to go. Scott Chuck R. HDTV tuner card

by Chuck R. Anderson

I'm thinking about putting together an order for the pcHDTV HD-3000 PCI NTSC/ATSC tuner card sold here: http://www.pchdtv.com/ It supports Linux (and does not officially support anything BUT Linux), and does not obey the "broadcast flag". It will only be legal to buy such a card until July 1, 2005: http://www.eff.org/broadcastflag/ and it works in MythTV: http://www.mythtv.org/ If people are interested, we can save money by ordering together: "Price reduced to now only $169.98. Volume discounts start on just 2 cards saving $4.98 ea. and $9.98 on 5 or more cards"
