I had a few ideas kicking in the back of my head for a meeting topic. By no means am I volunteering to give a talk on this, however I thought it would be a good idea to toss out. </end-disclaimer> How about a talk on port forwarding? The talk could include tunneling via program (like the old school datapipe proggy) and more appropriately the finner points of SSH port forwarding. Other peripheral topics could be including such as: port knocking, alt mechanisms of ssh authentication, and X11 forwarding. Just a thought... Cheers, Mike

True? Would this be relatively close to Worcester? Does this teenage Linux newbie have teenage friends who also share an interest in Linux? I've got 4 users who all use squirrelmail to read their mail. The machine probably sees 700 messages a day, and has no problems. Scott

So, apt-get install squirrelmail suggests imapproxy. Per imapproxy.org: "imapproxy was written to compensate for webmail clients that are unable to maintain persistent connections to an IMAP server. Most webmail clients need to log in to an IMAP server for nearly every single transaction. This behaviour can cause tragic performance problems on the IMAP server. imapproxy tries to deal with this problem by leaving server connections open for a short time after a webmail client logs out. When the webmail client connects again, imapproxy will determine if there's a cached connection available and reuse it if possible." Have you installed imapproxy? Would I regret it if I skip that package? I'd normally be accessing webmail using Firefox 1.5.x.x or later, IE 6 or later, and possibly (though unlikely) Camino or Safari. -- Rich

check out squirell mail. Really easy to setup, works w/imap -Eric -----Original Message----- From: Richard Klein <rich(a)richardklein.org> Subj: [Wlug] Webmail: What do you like? At the time, I was looking for help setting up an IMAP server. I eventually got that working with Debian Sarge, Postfix, UW-IMAP, and the howto at: http://howtoforge.com/perfect_setup_debian_sarge I think everything is working now, although I haven't switched my MX record to this server yet, but I'm still lacking a webmail interface. Pretty simple to use and configure, might require an extra bit of apache knowledge if you go with 1.5.1 instead of just 'apt-get install squirrelmail' I'm afraid that I can't really compare it to anything else since I haven't used them.
