I've got a series 2 box, with lifetime, so I'm really loathe to get rid of it until it goes up in flames. And since I *really* like the TiVo remote, I don't want to have to teach myself, wife and kid how to use yet another friggin TV doohickey. So to get this straight, you've got your TiVo plugged into the Charter Settop box and you can browse all the channels via the TiVo remote? Duh... I just re-read your reply and I see that you use comcast, not Charter. Sigh... now to find out what Charter uses. More googling I fear!

I know nothing about Charter's VoIP because I use VoicePulse VoIP and highly recommend it. Half the price of charter for the plan I use ($15/mo) and I'm very happy especially with their service department. If you have any problems you'll talk to and hear back from intelligent service people who call and/or email you to discuss the issue. -BR http://www.voicepulse.com/

Charter Telephone reviews, boylston?

by John Stoffel

Hi, Anyone on here using Charter Telephone VOIP service? I've currently got Verizon, but the wife hates it because our phone lines get flaky all the time, esp when it rains. So I'm thinking to save money and combine all my stuff onto Charter. I've already got High Speed internet and regular old cable. Not wild about Digital Cable since I'm happy with Tivo and I don't want yet another set top box to have to deal with... So, any horror stories about Charter Phone VOIP quality and service? Thanks, John

Re: [Wlug] Possible cheap linux network device

by Adam Keck

Hello, {Accidently sent early :-P} I have a WRT54GL, on which I am planning to play with some of the free firmware distributions, but the WRTSL54GS looks more interesting. It has a faster processor, more RAM and, a USB 2.0 port. Connected to a dual drive enclosure, it could make a conveniently small file-server. Has anyone played with the WRTSL54GS? -Adam On 8/27/07, Aaron Haviland <orion(a)parsed.net> wrote: > kstratton(a)fastmail.us wrote, on Aug 27, 2007 at 12:20 EDT: > > This may be old news, but a friend of mine has upgraded his linksys > > router. This may be old news, but a friend of mine has upgraded his linksys router. This could be considered to be a "cheap computer" depending on what is is used for: If you wish you can check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WRT54G -- kstratton(a)fastmail.us

Re: [Wlug] comparison of virtualization technologies

by Adam Keck

Hello All, I recently tried both the free VMWare GSX server and the quasi-free virtualbox with gui. I ended with GSX for two reasons. o Virtualbox kernel panics under the Debian FAI install kernel after about 10 minutes of package installs. Not sure why it dies, but since I want to use VMs to test new installations to keep machines from breeding in my office, this was a show-stopper for me. o Setting up bridged networking and the tap interfaces to share the host connection happens outside the virtual application. Setting them up I found to be a pain, even though I eventually got it working. The GSX install seems to do this for you which saved a lot of time. -Adam Mike Leo wrote: > > I wasn't at the meeting, but anytime virtualization I have to mention > > virtualbox.com....works better than VMWare Workstation plus its free! > > Correction: > http://www.virtualbox.org/ > > >

Sysstat -> Graph?

by Adam Keck

Hello All, What are your favorite sysstat graphing tools? I run sysstat on almost everything, but also have orca for Linux collecting data from several servers for graphing. I am wondering if I can make do with only sysstat. -Adam
