Re: [Wlug] looking for mySql setup info

by John Stoffel

So what happens when you type 'emerge mysql' on your box? I haven't done Gentoo in a *long* time, but that's probably the starting point. You need to make sure you have both the mysql server running, as well as the client on your system. This wiki looks like it's what you want to follow as well: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Setup_MythTV John

I want to get myth tv installed. My problem is that I can not get to the mysql prompt. Once I get there, I think I can follow the gentoo setup guides for mySql and myth TV. I am looking for an independent setup guide for mysql to get to the mysql prompt so that i can troubleshoot what is wrong with my setup. Once I get it insalled, I am considering buying hdhomerun. Mark, For tutorials, you might want to listen to these Linux Reality podcasts from Oct 2007. Episode 80 covers the GIMP and episodes 82-83 discuss inkscape. http://www.linuxreality.com/archives/ Robert N. I am getting better at GIMP and re-learning my MS Office skills with OpenOffice, but, I like to learn inkscape, scribus, do more with KompoZer, and do some multimedia as well I could use advice on how to make my computer club function well and if my club and yours could mingle a bit here and there on occasion when Fedora 9 and KDE 4.1 finally is available. I love Fedora, I feel it could catch up to Ubuntu and maybe surpass it with some new features. I hope you get many attendees and that it goes well for you. I have some limited experience with Gimp, and perhaps a bit more with OpenOffice, but I've never used inkscape, scribus, or KompoZer, for example. Perhaps others in the group could comment about those programs. Nah, Fedora will never catch Ubuntu. ;-) (Oops, was that the opening salvo to a religious war? Just kidding...don't start a war, please.) We have many folks in WLUG experienced on either (or perhaps both) of those high quality distros. Does your group have a website? I'd be happy to put a link to it from the WLUG site if you would reciprocate. I just bought my new system from Newegg with an ATI 1600 silent (fanless) PCIe graphics card. This is good news for future improvements! More details on my new system if people are interested, but basically a nice moterboard, AMD 5200 CPU, 4gb (2x2g) RAM, graphics, disk and a power supply for $500. I'm happy. John

Scheduler Program mentioned in meeting

by Eric Stein

Hi all, Yeah, I'm still *in* the meeting. Glory be to laptops. I'm building a PyGTK scheduling application. It can be downloaded at: http://cons.truct.org/projects/psyched.html Release 0.1.0 is usable, but I suggest using the SVN trunk - it's better. I'm probably going to be releasing 0.1.1 in a few weeks.
