looking for mySql setup info

I am having trouble getting mySql operating with gentoo linux. I am not looking for gentoo-specific help, but I am looking for basic setup information (prefeerably a manual) on how to setup mySql undere linux. I hooked up with you because I am very interested in KDE 4 and want to learn more about how to make linux work for me since I am a writer/enthusiast not a programmer. I just bought my new system from Newegg with an ATI 1600 silent (fanless) PCIe graphics card. This is good news for future improvements! More details on my new system if people are interested, but basically a nice moterboard, AMD 5200 CPU, 4gb (2x2g) RAM, graphics, disk and a power supply for $500. I'm happy. John

JOB - Linux Applications, C/C++ contract openings

Our client in northern MA has 2 openings for Linux Application Engineers. These are 4 + mths contracts. The work includes some design, full implementation of code, code reviews, integration with hardware and other software, writing test plans, and executing test plan. Linux, multithreaded, multiprocessor, strong C/C++ (emphasis on C++), strong debugging, good communication skills, and team player. Most of our Linux applications are user space processes that are in C++, use a lot of interprocess communications both on the same processor and on other processors in the system. The IPC is CORBA and Sockets. We are using Wind River 2.0 release which has Linux 2.6.21. Processors are Freescale 8548. Source control is Perforce.
