Re: [Wlug] Hardware Vendor Search (a bit off list)

by Jamie Guinan

I had a really bad experience trying to buy a 1U server from a vendor I saw in Linux Journal, thinking I'd support a "linux-friendly" company. Well, after they charged my CC, it took them 3 *weeks* to start the system burn-in, the system *failed* burn-in, they said it would take at least another week... so I finally told them to screw off and got my money back. I ended up buying a dirt-cheap 1U Celeron (Cybertron) from TigerDirect, which I colo'd with a Level3 reseller in Cambridge. Its been humming along for 2 years so far. So if you're willing forego the "value add" (pronounced with dripping sarcasm and doing the "quotes" motion with my fingers) that some vendors might provide, and you can install and configure your own Linux distro, you might try TigerDirect or another generic online vendor. -Jamie On Fri, 8 Jun 2007, Tal Cohen wrote: > Does anyone know a good, reliable, hardware vendor that they can recommend? > I need to purchase 4-7 2U servers and our existing vendor is dragging his > feet. > > > > Thanks, > Tal

Seeking Linux help for area non-profit - compensation potential

by Mike Peckar

Please do not reply to the list or to me. Boylston's public cable access channel (WBAC) is seeking to expand its services and offer Video on Demand and video file upload and download services for its staff and eventually the community. They currently have their web site and email hosted with an ISP and they are happy with that, but the ISP cannot provide them with these new services. They are looking for help in installing and configuring a linux box off their private LAN for this purpose. They also need other general help with their setup including configuring and troubleshooting VPN connections via their netgear VPN/firewall, etc. These folks are sort of windows literate, and they recognize that Linux will provide them with the most secure and cost-effective solution to meet their growing needs at this time. Ideally, they are seeking Boylston residents, but they are willing to bring in help from outside their community. They are also able to reasonably compensate for the above mentioned services and/or barter for access to their fine production equipment. If you are intersted in learning more about video and television production, this may be well worth your effort. To express your interest, please provide a brief summary of your skills, your level of interest in supporting WBAC, and any compensation requirements to: Tom Martiska Staff(a)wbactv.org

Hi gang, Just wanted to let you know that I signed all of the keys from the PGP key signing party and sent them to the gpg mit server. I am not sure how to confirm that I did it correctly, so if someone can check his key and let me know if I did alright I'd appreciate it. Also how do I check who has signed my key?
