Linux Sparc Boxes - freebie and selling

by john＠stoffel.org

Guys, I've got some Sparc Classics with RH 6.1 pre-installed. Mostly they have 1-2gb disks with 32-64mb of RAM, builtin ethernet, SCSI, video. I've also got keyboards and mice to go with each one. I'd like to get rid of these from the garage finally. So I'll be raffling off one tonight at the meeting, and I'll bring others for those who want to pay $40 one. I think I have 8 for sale, maybe more, maybe less. I'll give you money back if it doesn't work out of the box. These suckers make nice home servers, and it's easy to addon extra storage, etc. They all worked just fine when booted and installed over the network not too long ago. Sorry for the late notice, and if I have any left over afterwards, I'll bring em back next time as well. Please send requests to 'john(a)stoffel.org'. Thanks, John

John, I can't make it to tonight's WLUG meeting. However, I'd like to buy two of these (@ $40 each) if we can make other arrangements for pickup. Depending on where you live (or work), I can probably come by your house (or workplace) sometime in the next week or so. RE: [Wlug] Cheap RAM ...

by Keller, Tim

The "GENERIC" manufacturer scares me a bit... Though on the same vein, I saw that Short-circuit city is selling "Centon" 256MB PC100 ram for 44.99 after rebate. Once again, I'm not sure if Centon is any better than GENERIC. Though for 120 bucks I could have 2gig of ram in my machine (provided my motherboard would support more than 128mb per slot)! Hmmm... now I just need a server motherboard that has like 12 memory slots!!! (kneeds hands together thinking about having to turn on BIGMEM stuff in kernel :-P) I went looking on http://www.thechipmerchant.com/19633-0.html (which I've had great luck with buying stuff) and it looks like there selling something comparable for 50.00 bucks... however they gave specific chipsets it would work with. Re: [Wlug] Extra Hardware

by Theo Van Dinter

Since everyone else and their close family members are giving away hardware, I wanted to make sure I offered the stuff I have available ... We're in the midst of cleaning out our apartment and have software, hardware, books, magazine, etc. I'm planning to be at the meeting on Thursday (8/16), so if you want any of this stuff let me know and I'll bring it down. :) (if you aren't at the meeting but want some stuff, let me know anyway and we'll work something out...) There's too much for a listing here though: http://www.kluge.net/~felicity/items.html -- Randomly Generated Tagline: signal(i, SIG_DFL); /* crunch, crunch, crunch */ -- Larry Wall in doarg.c from the perl source code

Re: [Wlug] DVD's to bring?

by Brian J. Conway

> For the DVD demo thingy, what are people going to bring for DVD's? People are bringing DVDs? That wasn't part of the deal. If you brought a DVD that I had prepared with the presentation it could be like plugging a USB scanner into a Win98 beta. Okay, nevermind. ;-) > I'll bring "Ghost in the Shell". The thing that makes this DVD so special > is that for some reason the authors chose not to encrypt the disk using CSS. > Its the only non encrypted DVD I've ever come across. Sounds good, I don't have any unencrypted DVDs that I know of. -b
