Thank you to the people who replied with questions or suggestions. Here is some additional info: The keyboard backlighting is what flashes briefly at start up attempt. The screen shows no light what so ever. Power it down. Press the Novo button with a paper clip or something small. This will bring you to the Novo menu which has bios,boot,and recovery entries. ..hope this is not too off topic.. Have a friend with a Lenovo ideapad. The screen stays black and does not light up whatsoever. Would anyone have suggestions for best way to go with it? More details: The sticker on it gives further info: Windows 8, intel core i5, and Ultrabook.
