Finally. Success. It wasn't pretty and maybe I'm vulnerable to some particular types of threats but at least I have Windows and Linux installed and available. :-\ In order to get the installer to see the Windows partition I had to open a terminal and run gdisk to remove the GPT record from the disk and tell it to use MBR. In any case, I think you need to make sure that you boot into Win10, shrink the C:\ drive and leave free space on the disk. Yeah, I should know better. I was beat up and frustrated at the time. Sorry. The root of my problem was that I couldn't find any options in the BIOS to manipulate the Secure Boot/UEFI/Legacy stuff. However, I found them this morning after I selected an option that I assumed to be unrelated which unlocked them. Thank you, Gigabyte. So I'm making progress now but I'm still not out of the woods yet. I've got Windows installed with space partitioned for LM but now I'm working on getting the installer to recognize the Windows partition. It thinks I have the entire disk available. Damn. UEFI Blues

I used to build PCs for myself, family and friends as a side hobby many moons back but as it became more of a headache I fell out of it for the most part. But recently I decided to replace the PC I have had since 2007 even though it was working fine for my needs. I really wanted an SSD drive, USB 3.0 and less power consumption. So all the headaches immediately returned and I remembered why I don't like to build these any more. I was able to get the hardware issues I encountered resolved, but them I was hit with the UEFI problem when trying to install and dual-boot Windows 10 and Linux Mint. I'm finding lots of help pages but none have worked for me. Maybe because I have a newer MB (Gigabyte GA-Z170MX with an Intel I5 6400). So I wonder without burdening anyone for specific instructions, can anyone provide any general thoughts or guidelines regarding UEFI, Windows 10 and Linux?
