I am by no means an eloquent public speaker, but I can bring my Kossel 3D printer and give some sort of informal demo/explanation of 3D printing and answer questions. A couple years ago, I found myself asking the same question; I was looking for a simple stand-alone program that stored data in an .ics file (or at the very least, had the ability to export to ics). KDE's Kontact application used to fit this description. KDE 4 did away with this when they introduce akonadi, a suite a services that functions as a personal information manager. With all due respect, akonadi was way too big a hammer for my needs. I ended up turning my address book into an org [1] file. One that has a good export/back up function (preferably backing up as text) I've google searched it, and did not get far with that. Ron

Hey Gang, The next meeting is on the 14th. We still don't have a speaker lined up. I know there was some interest in ZFS vs. XFS vs. JFS. Chuck: your point is well taken. Code that used to be ROM on I/O boards is now either in a Flash memory or perhaps in onboard RAM loaded by some operating system at boot time. Some would call that a proprietary binary blob. It is certainly much easier to update this code than to distribute a new ROM chip. Technology is constantly changing. I think the line is a blurry one. One could easily argue that the BIOS is a binary blob present in all PCs. My point wasn't to start this potential flame war. I was specifically asking about the Beaglebone Black. I'm actually curious just how Free it is. My research has not turned up any proprietary binary blobs for the this board. I figured that somebody in WLUG probably owned one and would know the answer. maddog's suggestion was also a good one. Thanks!
