Meeting topics

I've noticed that not too many people have putting in meeting topic requests, so I thought that if anyone's interested I'd volunteer to throw together some slides on BtrFS. For those of you who haven't heard of it, BtrFS is the next generation linux filesystem. Though still in heavy development, it was included in the mainstream kernel last year. It promises to scale to filesystems well beyond what any of the current offerings can handle (including ext4), as well as offering far greater flexibility and better data security for data admins. Job openings: web developer, application support specialist

Hi folks. My company is looking for a couple people for openings. Background: We're a two year-old startup located in Worcester that produces a high-performance, bidirectional messaging infrastructure that encompasses voice, SMS, email, IM, social networking, and more. Current customers include a number of restaurant chains, sports venues, and state agencies. The positions are full-time with health benefits. Pay has some flexibility, but geared towards entry level and recent grads. Web developer: PHP, Ajax, SQL (Oracle), XML, Linux (of course). Additional responsibility/salary is available for partial system operations support. Customer support/application specialist: Customer-facing, non-programmer, will become an expert in our applications. Responsible for initial setup and configuration of new customers in our applications and troubleshooting. Additional roles as they appear. Too bad you can't zone these off a bit so you don't have to enumerate all these devices sequentially to get things to boot up properly. [OT]Seeing SCSI devices in Solaris

Hi All, This may a bit [OT], but ... At work we have several Sparc servers running Solaris 10u8 that are connected to storage arrays via fiber cables and switches. Some of these hosts can have thousands of connections and can take hours to boot! Does anyone know a way to view the scsi connections in Solaris? In RedHat, I can do a cat /proc/scsi/scsi and see the connections. How can I do this in Solaris? devfsadm doesn't seem to give me what I want, and Google doesn't provide too much help. TIA, -Chuck

Upcoming meetting reminder

We have a meeting coming up on Thursday, February 11th in that meeting room next to the Morgan Hall dining center. It is very close to the former Access Grid room where we used to meet. If anybody is interested in leading the discussion or giving a presentation, please let me know, or just bring it to the meeting. If I know in advance, I'll announce it on the website - this often attracts more people to the meeting. Our last meeting was rather lightly attended, perhaps because I didn't get the reminder out in enough time. I pulled together a talk about how I used libHaru to generate PDF output from a program that I wrote. I could bring in another program (Perl script) that I wrote to get data out of a ham radio related piece of test gear. It is the very first native Linux program in the world to talk to this device. I know because I asked for (and received!!!) a previously unpublished specification from the vendor. Sweet! I will be releasing this program under the GPL v3 shortly. I'm looking forward to seeing lots of people at the next meeting. Of course, we'll go out after the meeting for pizza and socializing. While NOT PPC64, the Beagle board (beagleboard.org) looks pretty damn cool. The processor is an ARM Cortex. They -claim- laptop like performance (whatever that means...) Later, Tim. 201 CMR 17 - "Standards for the protection of personal information of residents of the Commonwealth" - takes effect March 1

Hello all, Just wanted to remind everyone that 201 CMR 17 takes effect March 1! If you're not familiar with this regulation, it specifies policies, procedures, and security requirements that are needed if you store a minimum of first initial and last name in conjunction with a social security number, drivers license/id number, financial account number (credit, debit, bank account number), or an access code or PIN/password that would allow access to a bank account. This doesn't just apply to companies that accept credit card payments. Think of it from an HR point of view as well.
