Hi All,
I wanted to follow up on a few threads from last night's meeting...
- I learned from Tim's presentation that Pygame wraps SDL, as well
as providing other useful classes and code.
I happened to be poking around the Spore installation on my
Macbook, and I found that it uses SDL, and even includes source!
guinan@macbook:~ $ find /Applications/SPORE/SPORE.app/
...
/Applications/SPORE/SPORE.app//Contents/Frameworks/SDL.framework
/Applications/SPORE/SPORE.app//Contents/Frameworks/SDL.framework/Headers
/Applications/SPORE/SPORE.app//Contents/Frameworks/SDL.framework/Headers/begin_code.h
/Applications/SPORE/SPORE.app//Contents/Frameworks/SDL.framework/Headers/close_code.h
/Applications/SPORE/SPORE.app//Contents/Frameworks/SDL.framework/Headers/SDL.h
...
/Applications/SPORE/SPORE.app//Contents/Frameworks/SDL.framework/SDL-source-with-transgaming-updates.tar.gz
...
Not Linux-specific, sure, but neat that SDL is used in one of the
biggest games of the past year.

Its mostly about Ham radio, but also homebrew electronics in general,

more and more with Linux.

WLUG Meeting Wednesday, Oct 21, 2009

Hi Everybody,
My apologies for the late notice. We do indeed have a WLUG meeting on
Wednesday evening, October 21, 2009 at 7:00 PM on the WPI campus.
Our speaker will be WLUG member Tim Keller, and the topic will be Pygame.
The meeting room is near the former Access Grid room. If you walk into
the main entrance to Morgan Hall, and turn right toward the dining hall,
you will see a door on your right just before the dining hall. Enter
that door and there will be a short hallway. We will be in the room on
the right. This is the same place where we met last month.
I'll try to remember to put up a penguin poster to guide you.
Afterwards, we'll go out for pizza and more great conversation, as is
our tradition.
Any and all are welcome to attend.
Andy

Hi Caobin,
Our event will be in Fuller Laboratories in Upper Perrault Lecture Hall. Our
School is at 100 Institute Road Worcester MA 01609. You may park
in the parking lot on Boynton Street which is next to our library and Fuller
Labs and across the street from a new, large residence hall.
If you google maps 30 Boynton Street, Worcester MA 10609, you will be right
across from where you can park and Fuller Labs is up a ramp to the north end
of the lot.
Hope to see you at the event,

by Billy Hnath
Hey all,
I wanted to remind you all of the Installfest we are having at WPI this
Friday, sponsored by the Worcester Chapter ACM. We will have developers from
Gentoo, Debian and Redhat along with a couple of other activists in the Open
Source community to participate in a panel discussion and Q&A session.
Later in the evening we will beging the actual Installfest. Our Gentoo Rep
may also being doing a short presentation on Embedded Linux, which is sure
to
be interesting and fun.
I invite you all come by for the talks and even help out new users to Linux
with their first-time installs.
Thanks and hope to see you there,
--Billy
