Linux and wireless 802.11b

I haven't had any luck getting a Netgear MA401 802.11b PCMCIA card working. I'm using RH 7.3 (2.4.18 kernel). I rebuilt the kernel to turn on support for the card, but I can't get a connection to my access point (a Netgear WG602). The kernel boots and tries to start the eth0 interface, which doesn't exist, since there's no CAT5 cable pluggeg into the ethernet port. The output of ifconfig shows the only interface that's up is the loopback (lo) interface. I have an HP Pavilion zt1180 laptop. Is there anything else I need to do? thanks removing the __db files seemd to do the trick but now i have rpm --rebuilddb error: db4 error(16) from dbenv->remove: Device or resource busy reading on google gave me: http://lists.freshrpms.net/pipermail/rpm-list/2003-April/003973.html so supposdly there is nothing to worry about. Put them someplace for safekeeping, then rebuild your database. Apparently, there are some operations that can give you a corrupt database, and rebuilding with "rpm --rebuilddb" doesn't fix it. Are you really sure it hangs? --rebuilddb takes a *very* long time to complete, like even up to 30 minutes or so. How long did you wait? rpm problems

when i do rpm --rebuilddb it hangs. I have to do a kill -9 to fix it. I can't install any rpm's If i reboot my box I can use RPM again. however only to install one rpm. After that, i must reboot again to use another rpm. 2 admin questions.

OS: Red Hat 9 Q1: sendmail... I have my sendmail configured to masquerade my outgoing email with my cable ISP's domain (charter.net) However, I have not found out how to convert my local username to the username I have at my ISP. Any ideas? BTW, I've configured Pine just fine for this. I'd just like take the extra step and have sendmail take care of all mailer utilities. Q2: CUPS... What's the best/right way to upgrade from LPRng to CUPS? I understand that HP printers work better under CUPS. True or False? TIA, Bill

My experience doing drive swaps between machines has been very good. It almost always works, a possible pitfall is if you have a custome kernel with hardware spefic stuff compiled in. I would reccomend runing badblocks check on the drive to make sure there are no bad sectors.
