upgrade openssl

Hi, I've just re-install the the latest openssl, got no problem with the ssh connection. But, How can i get a very slow speed when accessing my local mail that browsed using local url ? I'm using squirellmail. Any idea how could it be like that ? Thanks. Aramico

TightVnc

Well, I may be a total goober here and everyone else knows this, but if you use VNC try switching to TightVNC (www.tightvnc.org) ... I just upgraded my client & server from the AT&T implementation, and the performance gain I got is incredible. -Marc

They have both a 50 pin and a 68 pin internal connector, and a 68 pin external. You can hook everything up to the 68 pin connector, but you need 68 to 50 pin dongles, or you can hook some to each as long as the IDs are unique. --Skip

Flaky disks or controller?

HI Everybody, Having recently rebuilt my "good" computer, I'm now seeing a bunch of disk I/O errors in my system log. I have 3 SCSI disks connected to a Symbios controller using the sym53c8xx module and a 2.4.20 kernel. At first, I suspected an individual drive, as it is nearly 4 years old, and all of the errors were there. I have since physically removed that drive, and now the other drives are logging errors rather sporatically. Typically, I see an error message from reiserfs about how it couldn't write to the drive, and a disk I/O error in the log. The system is then wedged and requires a reboot. With the problem showing up on all 3 SCSI drives, I'm now suspicious of the (used) controller which I received as a "present" from a guy at work. If it should be the controller, do you folks have recommendations about reasonably priced SCSI controllers? I have 6 SCSI devices in my system and I need 68-pin as well as 50-pin capabilities. One of my disks is U160, and I think the others are slower, but with disks always getting faster, I'd probably want a U160 controller. I don't think I want to pay the premium for a U320 controller. Upcoming WLUG meeting - topics?

Hi Everybody, We have a WLUG meeting coming up on Wednesday, June 18th, and I have neither a topic nor a speaker lined up for this meeting. While I'm at it, we should probably plan for the July and August meetings as well. The July meeting will be the 6th(!) anniversary of the formation of WLUG, and we should probably celebrate in some way. I'm looking for volunteer speakers for the next few meetings. Actually I did get it working. The problem was I had some undefined symbols after I built the kernel. The symbols appeared to be related to SMP. So I compiled SMP support into the kernel (strange since this is a laptop...). IP Chains on RH. 7.3 to disable YM, ICQ, and MSN Messanger.

Hi all, I'm using masqueride for my client's internet connection. Here I defined only on port 21, 22, 80, 53, 25, 110, and 443. By this chains rule, all my client can get the access of the internet for ftp, ssh, Web handling, mail (pop3 and smtp) and https. That something I hate, I could not disable the access for Yahoo Messanger : (. YM has its personal proxy managing that can use defined common port as 80 (http port). How can I disable the connection for Yahoo Messanger using IPchains ? It's a good thing too if I can do the same thing for MSN Messanger, and ICQ. CD/DVD-ROM question

I just noticed that my boot message tells me that my CD-ROM and CDRW drives are also DVD-ROM. I wasn't aware that either of them had that capability when I bought them. All those spam messages about reading DVD from my CD-ROM went in the trash without being read, so now I'm wondering. Is it possible to read a DVD on a CD drive? If so, how? If not, why does the boot message say that? Thanks. Greg
