freeswan

Is anyone out there using freeswan? I'm thinking of repeating my wireless network over to my office after my move and I'm thinking of setting up freeswan to encrypt the traffic more tightly on the network when I do. The howto's I've found have been on setting up a vpn between networks, is it possible to set up freeswan to encrypt traffic on a single lan (until sdmca laws make it technically illegal to do so.....). Oooooh, one with a hardware encoder/decoder! When you get it working, please let us know how well it works. When it shows up, I'll have somthing with which to play. The MythTV website said that the CVS version of their software now (mostly) works with this card. We'll see... :-) It was a good talk! I have an ATI AIW video card with TV tuner and am looking to install the latest SuSE and get this baby up and running with (among other things) digital video recording capabilties. wireless repeating...

Hi all, We're MOVING! And now I have an opportunity to learn something new... Where we're going, our house is right next to the Church, and the Church offices are 25 yards from the Church and across the street. The Church is made of stone, the office-building is made of brick. Do you think it's possible to somehow put a repeater in the Church that will extend my wireless network the "last mile" so I can have internet access in my study? If so, what would you recommend? I know I'll have to set up a VPN for all my clients so traffic is in the clear on the network, but what hardware would allow me to do this? Wes -- Wesley Allen <wallen(a)charter.net>

ati mobility m6

hi Wlug, I have a laptop gateway 450sx4 with a video card, "ATI Technologies Inc. Mobility M6", as windows displays it. I could not figure which kernel video module I should load. another question is that what will go to the Driver section of XF86Config in xfree4.3.0? slackware uses vesa as default which does not use any hardware acceleration. thanks for any help, baris

Well I ran gentoo back before it was even 1.0. I've kept track of it over that last year (running redhat myself since I administer all redhat machines), and it has progressed nicley. My roomate swears by gentoo. My biggest problem with gentoo is having to compile everything. Now for most things, I don't mind compiling, however something like XFree or Mozilla, on a slower machine (even a faster one), you will be compiling for days (fortunately I have access to a quad xeon which makes compiling a ton faster). As far as the portage system goes, I believe there is now a way to distinguish whether you want bleeding edge, less bleeding edge, or stable. I actually loved the portage system (and wish redhat had something similar). I'd say try it and see if it suits you. If not, you can always try something else.
