have you looked at shoutcast? I've used it before to stream 24/7 the college radio station where went to school. Streaming audio from sound card...

Any recommendations on what to use as a server app to stream audio from a sound card input? I'm looking to send an MP3-encoded stream from a police scanner radio over an internal network. I need to be able to use WinAmp and XMMS as clients. Been searching around and see lots of choices but looking for recommendations on a simple and stable solution. driftnet

I just installed driftnet (http://www.ex-parrot.com/~chris/driftnet/) on a whim, but I can't seem to get it to show me any graphics, and I'm fairly sure there is some going by. I'm running RedHat 7.1. Here's the command I'm running as root: ./driftnet -v -i eth0 I get a blank pop-up, and the command window shows that it's seeing traffic. TIA, Bill

XP, huh ? Well, I haven't toyed with that beastie yet, but I have had 2 IDE disks fail under NT 4.0 (one at woek, one at home). Symptoms included sluggish file access, lockups, and BSODs. Look in Event Viewer, under System, for disk errors. If the disk is going bad, you'll see many of these (both correctable and non). Hope this helps. Sure, that could have been alot of things - bad memory, hot CPU, etc. I checked for all of these but found no problems. The failure seemed to only occur under load, so I ran 6 simultaneous Seti@Home jobs (on a 2 cpu machine), but then it refused to fail. One day, however, the disk started logging uncorrectable errors in the /var/log/messages file just before it locked up. It got bad enough that I had to work hard to recover a ReiserFS partition on that drive (did you know that ReiserFS has an fsck program? I do now!). I copied the data off of the drive, reformatted it, and put the data back. It worked fine for about 2 weeks, and then it got really bad (but still logging errors). I replaced the drive and have had no problems since. It was a 3 year old Seagate IDE drive (a little young by my standards and experience). Now, I have nothing but SCSI hard drives (I have yet to lose one of these, but I know that nothing lasts forever). When I installed Mozilla 0.9.9, I didn't uninstall the older version. The old one still comes up when I select Mozilla from the SuSE menu. I put an alias in /etc/profile.local to call the new version up from command line. How involved is it to wipe out the old version and get the menu to point to the new one? I'm in fvwm2, so I suspect that messing with the menus is another subject entirely.
