Next Meeting January 16th, 2025 Topic: SilverBlue Atomic / Win10 EOL and what that means for us.

by Tim Keller

Hey Everybody! On Thursday we'll have our first meeting of 2025! Time: 7PM Date: January 16th, 2025 Location: Technocopia, 44 Portland St. Floor 6 Virtual Location: https://meet.jit.si/WlugMA I don't have an "official" topic at the moment, if there's an itch you want to scratch, by all means let me know! As for our topic about SilverBlue and atomic desktops, I'm more than willing to create a VM on the spot and we can play with it. Microsoft is abandoning lots of people because their systems won't run windows 10. Personally I've had a couple of people reach out to me asking about linux and I suspect that those of us who advocate for FOSS are going to get an influx of questions. What works, what doesn't, ehow do people play games, etc.. As usual, we'll head off for dinner afterwards and keep the conversation going! Thanks, Tim. -- I am leery of the allegiances of any politician who refers to their constituents as "consumers".

If you are interested in giving this talk at an upcoming WLUG meeting - you're hired! Please let me know which month's meeting would be most convenient for you - all of the upcoming meetings for 2007 are posted on the website. REMINDER: Upcoming LAN Party !!

by Andy Stewart

HI Everybody, The next WLUG meeting will be held this coming Wednesday, February 19th, 2003 in a different location. The meeting room will be AK233 (Atwater Kent room 233). Please refer to the Wlug Meetings...Directions link for directions to this room. The building is right next to Salisbury Labs on the WPI campus. Please note the earlier start time of 6:00 PM ! At this meeting, we'll be having a LAN party ! This is WLUG's first LAN party so I'm curious to see what people bring. You'll need to bring your network gear (hubs, switches, cables) and a laptop or desktop machine with networking enabled. We'll interconnect all of the machines to create one big WLUG LAN. I'll bring my PLIP cable for the masochists in the crowd. This network most likely will *not* have access to the Internet (but we'll see what we can do). On this LAN, all sorts of activities could take place, such as multiplayer games, network security scans, attempts to (non-destructively!) crack another persons system to teach them about their security weaknesses, and more. Its really up to all of you and your imaginations as to what we can do with this type of setup. I'll even entertain doing a couple of network based Linux installations if folks want that. If people need help configuring their systems for networking, that help will be available. I'll also be available to do a demonstration of VNC for those interested. The possibilities are really endless. Due to the amount of time to setup such a LAN and still have time to have fun with it, I've extended the time of the WLUG meeting from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM (note earlier start time!). Have a lot of fun, and I'll see you all on Wednesday. Andy -- Andy Stewart, Founder Worcester Linux Users' Group Worcester, MA USA http://www.wlug.org

I haven't been to a WLUG meeting in ages. Is it still in the same building in the southwest corner of the quad? The floorplan link is dead, http://www.wpi.edu/Admin/CC/Floorplans/37678.htm Is there parking available in the West Street lot? Will there be WiFi and/or ethernet available for the Pis? Keyboard? HDMI monitor? -Jamie On Thu, 12 Mar 2015, Tim Keller wrote: > Hey Everybody, > > This is a reminder that tonight is WLUG! > > We'll be talking about the Raspberry Pi like devices that are now on the > market and the amazing stuff we can do with them. > Chuck is going to bring along a Pi like device to show off how open > hardware helps speed along the innovation curve! > > We'll be meeting in the usual spot, the Mid-Century Room (rm-331) at 7pm. > > I'll bring along snacks and drinks and afterwards we'll go out for pizza! > > See ya there! > > Later, > Tim. > > -- > I am leery of the allegiances of any politician who refers to their > constituents as "consumers". >

Meeting Tomorrow!! May 21st. Topic: why does gmail hate me?

I didn't know what that is, so I googled. I am glad the AI has finally passed its Language Proficiency Exam and joined Lambda Pi Epsilon. (Just joking. I know you are referring to CVE-2026-31431, which is easier to remember since it is so close to $\pi$.) Too damn many TLAs! Google also turned up this minority report: https://www.helpnetsecurity.com/2026/05/18/problems-with-ai-assisted-vulner… If anybody cares what I have been working on, part of it is on this page: http://www.nerflings.org/none/fcs/vpsmove.html#gmail If you can answer any of the quesions at the end of that page you may be eligible to apply to be my hero. -- Keith
