Recommended virtual private server (UML) hosting?
I'm looking for an inexpensive vps hosting option (UML-based or similar) that will allow me full control over server configuration. Are there any that are recommended? Thanks, - Bob

I use www.serverpronto.com for my domains and highly recommend them. It's a dedicated server for the price of a virtual. $29/month with a your choice of OS. FreeBSD, Red Hat, Suse, Debian, Fedora and I think Gentoo also(It use to be listed, just ask for it). Plus the crappy Windows, but that cost more. The only issue I have is the $149 setup fee, which I think is high, but this month they have a special with $80 off the fee. Rob

I've had a UML based system with http://www.linode.com for over a year and have been very happy with it and linode.com. The lowest cost system, "Linode 64", is $19.95 a month. (Extra disk space if you sign up for a year.) You have full control, create partitions, install the distro, root access etc. The web based interface (Linode Platform Manager) used to partition, install etc is pretty good also.
